I couldn’t think of a better game to review on the eve of Halloween than one based on torture devices and cringe-inducing deaths at the hands of the infamous Jigsaw killer. Zombie Studios and Konami, the marvelous guys behind Silent Hill, have brought the Saw series to life in the third-person survival horror game SAW. I’m kind of glad they didn’t do some ridiculous spin on words for the title. Those three little letters are still enough to send shivers down our spines when we think of all the painful ways that the creators of the Saw franchise have come up with to kill those undeserving of the lives they were given.

Most racing games which involve two wheels generally play second fiddle to their four wheel counterparts. While the audience is obviously smaller, the mechanics never seem to translate well to a game pad or keyboard. Today we look at the latest title from Conspiracy Entertainment entitled SBK Superbike World Championship.

TimeGate Studios are a developer well known for their release of the Kohan real time strategy series which was a favourite with the gaming community a few years ago. They tried to push the boundaries of the genre and for the most part it worked well. They were also responsible for the F.E.A.R. Expansions - Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate. Today we review their latest game, a multiplayer focused shooter.

I'm having a hard time trying to find something original in Section 8. And it matters not. Even the engine is used - it's based on the multi-platform Unreal Engine 3, which irritates me since I can't get anti-aliasing to work; but fine, it doesn't seem to disrupt my ability to womp the shite out of 16 of my temporary nemeses, bot or human, and try as I might, I can't stay away from this title for very long. Oh, and I've been playing the beta, the demo version.

In 2009 TimeGate Studios released a first person shooter called Section 8 which gained a decent online following thanks to a good multi-player experience. The follow up features refinements to the multi-player and a new single player campaign but the twist is that this is a download only title (for 360/PS3 and PC) which costs £9.99/$15 rather than the £30-40 or $50 that most new titles launch at.

The date is 08/09/2011. At 1800 hours I'm marching to the Thames to board the HMS Belfast. Sega have invited us to a press event to get some hands on experience with their latest Xbox Live Arcade title, Renegade Ops; and some body painted ladies. Despite living the furthest from this location, I'm the only XSR staff member aboard. That's dedication for you.

SEGA are one of the first publishers to get behind the PS Vita and their launch week offering is Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition. With touch screen controls, online play and motion sensor functionality included in addition to the standard tennis modes it could offer something quite different to the average console experience.

Set in Egypt this is a prequel to Serious Sam: The First Encounter and takes place at the beginning of Lord Mental's invasion of Earth. Our job is to get to the Cairo Museum and secure a scientist who thinks he has the key to saving Earth.

Serious Sam has earned ‘cult’ status on the PC platform. The first two titles proved to be big sellers for Croteam, targeting the first person shooter audience who just wanted a good old ‘run and gun’ style experience. I have been playing the latest iteration in the series now for the last week and have found it both fun, and incredibly challenging.
