Batman: Arkham Asylum was a great benchmark. The built-in benchmark gave us a fantastic idea of what's going on with performance under the game and while performance has always been quite strong, the game looked fantastic as well. The other benefit was it included PhysX support which gave us a good idea of how PhysX would impact performance. Outside of all that, though, one of the best things about Batman: AA was the simple fact it was a really good game. It's one of the few super hero games in recent years that offered a fantastic story and the dark setting behind it all made for a really enticing experience.

Let me paint a little picture here - I personally use a speedy fiber Internet connection and typically it is super fast for anything I do. You'd imagine my pain in launching a Battlefield 3 session after waiting patiently to connect to a server nearby with a good ping, only to find when I get in the game, it's lagging almost to an unplayable degree. Alright, it's not like the good old days where you'd see up to and above 500ms latency - but still, it's enough to get your aim and so forth off target and cause some real mouse smashing on the pad. It turns out that to enable a smooth gaming experience in BF3 on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 there is a little bit of work to be done. You know EA... it would be nice if you made this a little more public. I suspect it may be because not everyone is affected by the issue and it will depend greatly on your n etwork setup. Anyway, to cut to the chase, it turns out you need to enable certain online ports for BF3 to offer a lag-free gaming experience.
The Run is the latest instalment of the now 17 year old Need for Speed franchise and continues the action focused, street racing gameplay that was characteristic of Black Box's other NFS titles as we play as Jack Rourke, a driver with a mob debt which he cannot pay on his own.
It's now 15 major titles and 60+ million sales since we first saw the original title in 1986 and without doubt this is a series of games which, more than most, has managed to retain its quality throughout with the undoubted pinnacle being 1998's Ocarina of Time... possibly the finest video game ever created.
It's almost ironic that it would take the desire to create an MMO for the last survivor of the city-builder genre to come to life. The latest incarnation of that survivor is Cities XL 2012. It's not an MMO, but rather a traditional city-builder sim that tries to cater to old-school SimCity fans. Does this game do enough to fill that void?

Assassins Creed has been a huge cash cow for Ubisoft over the years, backed up by massive television advertising campaigns. While I have enjoyed the games in the past, I have found them all slightly repetitive after a few hours of climbing, jumping and killing. The latest Revelations follows on from Brotherhood, adding a few new features but basically retreading the same old ground.
