Mit Bioshock Infinite hat der Entwickler Irrational Games den dritten Teil der Shooter-Serie veröffentlicht, bei dem sich alles um die Himmelsstadt Columbia und das dort befindliche Mädchen Elizabeth dreht. Die junge Dame soll aus den Klauen einber bösen Macht befreit und gleichzeitig entführt werden. Wir sind in die Rolle der Hauptperson Booker Dewitt geschlüpft und haben ihn bei seinem zunächst simpel erscheinenden Auftrag begleitet. The Run is the latest instalment of the now 17 year old Need for Speed franchise and continues the action focused, street racing gameplay that was characteristic of Black Box's other NFS titles as we play as Jack Rourke, a driver with a mob debt which he cannot pay on his own.
I remember the day when I loved to play the Need For Speed games, but recently I will admit to finding them dull, monotonous and immediately forgettable. When I was asked to review ‘The Run’ I winced inwardly at the prospect of having to sit through hours and hours of racing through various boring sections of a generic world map. Surprisingly ‘The Run’ is the first racing game Electronic Arts have released in years, that I have actually enjoyed, it has problems however.
Last year Electronic Arts took Need for Speed back to its roots with success. Criterion Games, the developer behind Burnout, reinvigorated the series, but the game also had an interesting trailer attached. EA used that game to announce the release of Shift 2. Coming only months after the last Need for Speed game, many would see it as too soon. But more of a worry for EA is that of the gargantuan Gran Turismo 5. So, should you check out Shift 2? Well, yes and no.
The folks at EA seem to be milking the Need for Speed series for all it's worth lately. Shift 2: Unleashed is touted as the most realistic racing simulation to date. This title absolutely lives up to that hype, but not without it's quirks. Gentlemen, start your engines...
Super fast cars and gorgeous women, its a geek’s dream. Sure we can’t afford either, but thanks to Electronic Arts we can enjoy part of the experience in the comfort of our own homes (yes the cars bit of the equation you dirty dogs). Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit is the kick in the ass the franchise has needed for a long time – fast and furious style car chases with the police in the world’s most exotic cars. If you still haven’t even raised an eyebrow, check you have a pulse.
