For the few of you who don’t know - legendary developer Bioware have a new game released called Dragon Age: Origins. Publisher Electronic Arts have been behind a huge marketing campaign with a level of hype I haven’t seen in quite a while. Thankfully we are glad to report, for once, our expectations are met - this is possibly THE game of 2009.

GH was at EA’s Pre-E3 party last week in Los Angeles and we had a look at Bioware’s demo of Dragon Age: Origins for the PC. Bioware’s new epic, dark fantasy RPG has been receiving a lot of attention lately. The game’s marketing team has hit the internet hard and you would practically have to be blind to miss all the online ads for the game. This is a special case in which all the hype and pomp is very much deserved.
Dragon's Dogma takes place in an open world fantasy RPG setting that includes classic hack and slash content as well as horror elements which should come as no surprise. It is after all developed by the team behind Resident Evil and Devil May Cry.
The original Dragons Dogma is one of my all-time favourite games and yet it’s also one of the least refined games I’ve ever played, but it offered something special, something that really stood out from the crowd and it’s easily one of the purest and most engrossing action RPG games of this console generation, the likes of which haven’t been seen on consoles since the PlayStation 2. While that may not sound like a long time ago, keep in mind that the PlayStation 3 is now 7 years old, the PlayStation 2 13 years old.
Dragon’s Dogma was a game that was hiding just under the radar until a couple of months before release. Suddenly, all this information and gameplay depicting epic battles with fantastic, giant monsters started being hyped. I certainly hadn’t paid much attention to it until then, but experiencing the demo where I got to tangle with both a Chimera and a Griffin had me sold. Unfortunately, for everything the game gets right, there are a series of problems that make the experience incredibly frustrating.
