Have you wanted to upgrade to Microsoft Windows 7 or just do a fresh install and don't know where to start? Running Windows 7 can be a huge time saver, and, in many cases, will run much faster on the computer you already own, with not much required. Maybe a memory upgrade to give your computer a little more speed. The computer may not be the fastest one on the block, for more speed you need at least two GB of RAM for basic computing.

Continuing our series of Beginner's Guides for HTPC and Home Theater, this guide will take a closer look at Video Resolutions--what it means, why's it important and how to make your picture as good as possible for your particular environment. In today’s TV market, the choice of resolution is generally between 720p and 1080p with 720p displays offering a lower price. If the display receives a format that is not in its native resolution, the image is scaled to meet the native resolution. There are times when 720p displays are all that is required and this is due to the eye’s ability to resolve each line of resolution from a given distance.

Lucid (formerly LucidLogix) appeared on the enthusiast horizon with their "Hydra" technology, which purported to enable vendor-agnostic multi-GPU systems. Users would be able to combine the performance of different video cards from different vendors, rather than being constrained to the cards required by ATI CrossFireX or NVIDIA SLI. Hydra didn't work as well as had been hoped, but the introduction of Intel's new Z68 chipset came with an announcement that Intel had licensed Lucid's "Virtu" GPU virtualization technology. This brings significant new features to Z68 motherboards, and Benchmark Reviews will examine them in this article.

Benchmarks are one of those things you either love or hate. We actually love benchmarks since they are a huge part of the enthusiast's arsenal. From competing on HWbot, submitting to Futuremark's ORB, or just tuning in new hardware you will be using some form of benchmark to determine your level of performance. While game tests give the results that really matter to most people synthetic benchmarks have certainly proven their worth.
