By now, H.265 (or HEVC) has proven that it is able to reduce bandwidth usage by 50% compared to H.264. In all likelihood, the new codec will play a large role in the increasing popularity of 4K video. However, for the time being we'll have to wait for devices, and thus chips, which actually support this new standard. Parties such as Qualcomm and PowerVR have already made announcements, but other parties remain suspiciously quiet. To be continued!

One problem you may face with an XBMC Linux installation (or appliance running XBMC) is connecting to and scraping your media that resides on a NAS. You have to do a little tweak to your Diskstation to get XBMC (and some other appliances) to work.

It took me about a day of messing around with Linux's Easy Peasy OS, designed for the EEE netbook, to realize that I wanted anything but Easy Peasy. So I went on a Google search trying to figure out how to get Windows 7 on my netbook without springing for an external optical drive. The answer was obvious; I had to use a flash drive. Now, getting a computer to see a flash drive as a bootable source isn't easy. You basically have to turn your flash drive into a hard drive with boot sectors, an exact replica of the original Windows CD or DVD. It sounds hard, and unless you know what you're doing, it is. It took me hours of searching before I came across a forum that had instructions that worked. That's what I'm sharing with you today.

I had heard of installing Vista and even Windows 7 RC using a flash drive, but never XP (my operating system of choice). I spent some time researching and by combining a few things I learned on various sites, put together a method that was pretty quick and worked perfectly. I decided to make this guide (complete with clickable screenshots) for people like me who need a no-nonsense method of installing XP from a flash drive.

Your personal computer is one of the biggest investments that you can make for your home. When you first buy a computer you are often asked if you would like to include antivirus software on your system. Some people usually want it included so they are not infected the minute they get on the internet. But now, PC users are faced with another choice of whether or not to upgrade their system to Windows 8 or to stay with what they are using. If you decide to upgrade your system, there are some things that you will need to do in order to get ready for the change.

Windows Vista of course, has lots of extra features, which usually means you need a faster computer to keep the same speed as the previous generation. One of the most basic things people do with their comptuers is browse for files using Explorer. Sometimes you can think your comptuer is really slow, because Explorer is busy getting video or photo thumbnails, or doing other automatic things to "make your life easier".
