Mechanical keyboards have been popular with the gaming audience now for some time, but they can often be rather expensive. Corsair recently released their K40 gamer keyboard which uses more mainstream rubber domes but takes a leaf out of the ‘mechanical playbook’ by keeping the switches separate from one another. It also has macro keys and a fully fledged backlighting system. If your budget is limited to £50 is this the keyboard that you need to shortlist?

With Corsair locking in an exclusivity deal on the Cherry RGB key switches for their first year and in general with Cherry switches being on backorder sometimes over a year out it’s no surprise that a lot of the manufactures have been reaching out to other options. Razer uses an MX style knockoff with their specifications, SteelSeries introduced their QS1 switch with their new mechanical keyboard, and Logitech actually introduced their new Romer G switches all the way back in September of last year. Well the G910 that houses the Romer G switches has been extremely popular and only a few weeks ago did we finally get one in to test out. I loved the G710+ but with the G910 changing everything from the ground up I really have no idea what to expect. That said I’m excited to see how the new switches perform and find out if the new design is a good as the changes they have made in their mouse lineup have been.

It’s weird, for a long time it felt like I was testing a new mouse every week or two week. More recently though that has almost completely flipped and my peripheral testing has been all keyboards. Well just before vacation and then the LAN I did have a bit of a chance of pace. Mionix sent over their latest mouse, the Castor and asked us to take a look at it. So I’ve been putting the new mouse to the test in the office while I have been getting caught up on work. Well I finally have a little time to be able to sit down and talk about Mionix’s latest mouse and how it performed, so hang on I’m going to go over everything.

Although most recent games have been huge disappointments there is light at the end of the tunnel and so after the latest Tomb Raider, Warframe, Planetside 2, Crysis 3 and the expansion packs for The Elder Scrolls IV Skyrim (Dragonborn) and StarCraft 2 (Heart Of The Swarm) both EA and DICE have also joined the fun by releasing the quite impressive trailer of the upcoming Battlefield 4 FPS. On top of these latest and soon to be released game titles add the fact that the summer is not far away and the result is no other than consumers heading out to purchase both hardware parts to make their computers capable of supporting these games and of course gaming peripherals to help them have the best possible experience when playing. Now a keyboard may not be as important as the mouse when playing fast passed games (i think we can all agree to that) but that doesn't mean that a good keyboard can't help you win your battles. Today on our test bench we have the latest Isku FX illuminated gaming keyboard by ROCCAT which judging by its name and design it's an improved version of the original Isku.
