Input devices are arguably the most important pieces of hardware you buy for your PC. A $5,000 computer is only as good as its peripherals, and by the same token, a good keyboard and mouse can make a budget rig feel like a million bucks. I have recently become a collector and connoisseur of the finer input devices such as mechanical keyboards. When asked to review a new mouse from Cooler Master, I jumped at the chance to put this device through the paces
Alienware proudly released their TactX keyboard and mouse into the US with the UK to shortly follow. DriverHeaven received a production pair and obviously, the TactX name implies a focus on cunning ingenuity and precision, designed to appeal to serious gamers and others who realize it takes great peripherals in addition to a great computer to make an awesome gaming ecosystem. At DriverHeaven we can appreciate that environment and we’ll see if the Alienware TactX keyboard and mouse can secure a tactical advantage within it.
After reviewing Eagle Tech’s affordable 2.1 speaker setup, they sent us over another speaker set for review – the ET-AR302-BK. In keeping with the theme of the other Eagle Tech speakers they promise decent sound quality at a very reasonable price. At just the $20 mark, this 2.0 set is hardly going to break the bank but how do they shape up in terms of performance and sound quality?
SteelSeries are a very well established company intent on producing professional grade gaming gear for all skill levels. From its formation in 2001, SteelSeries have gone a long way and now produces a wide range of peripherals from mice, keyboards and headsets to mouse pads and now even special branded products.
SteelSeries was on hand at PAX 09 to show off their new gaming mice, the Kinzu optical mouse and Xai laser mouse. These mice are superior to the Ikari in some respects, but some users will still prefer the Ikari for its comfortable shape.
There was no shortage of gaming headphone vendors at PAX 09. Not only were Astro, Dolby and Tritton there, but Turtle Beach was showing off some of their headsets designed for gamers.

One such company which has a good track record in the peripheral industry is Speedlink and they are renowned for producing top quality products at a range of price levels that can suit a specific user’s needs. With a large number of keyboards already available, Speedlink have created the Base Line – a keyboard designed with the economic crisis in mind sporting a very reasonable price tag. We’ve seen brilliant things from Speedlink in the past, so let’s see how this latest product shapes up.
The LifeCam VX-5500 sits near the top of Microsoft's web cam offerings yet the E4C-00001 kit checks in at a very reasonable price point. It has some great features including noise cancelling, echo cancelling, 1.3MP HD picture quality, and auto-adjustment for low light conditions -all in a compact package clearly directed toward the mobile user.
