Buying a power supply is a lot like shopping for tires. You know you need them but it’s just not going to raise your heart rate.

We take a look at one of SilverStone's lower wattage offerings to see if their low-end is just as good as their high-end. Let's dive in and see.

Cooler Master released their GX II line recently, priced at $69.99. The 650W GX II by Cooler Master is a nonmodular PSU that is 80+ bronze rated. This is the second generation of the Game Xtreme PSU family. There are a few changes to the updated power supplies, but for the most part the PSUs remain the same.

Today we look at the latest Seasonic S12G 750W power supply, a new 80 Plus Gold design using top grade Japanese components. This is the highest output model in the new Seasonic range, alongside a 450W, 550W and 650W unit. Seasonic are gunning for the mass market enthusiast audience, aiming at an estimated price around €100. As far back as i can recall I’ve always considered the power supply as one of the most important hardware components of a system. True i never thought about it to be just as important as the mainboard or the graphics card but i always knew that in order for these two to work flawlessly a good PSU providing stable power is a must. Of course back when i started testing power supply units they didn't have the many 80 Plus certifications that we have now nor did they have the features they do now but the entire concept was the same. Nowadays however things are quite easier so in a way the various 80 Plus certifications also provide a quick way for people to know what a specific power supply is capable off without digging deeper (for example we have yet to test an 80 Plus Gold or Platinum PSU that didn't have excellent performance). On one hand however not everyone can afford to purchase a high output Gold/Platinum 80 Plus Certified PSU while on the other there are several bronze and silver certified ones with excellent performance as well. Now as you all know recently we gave away a Power Zone 1000W 80 Plus Bronze Certified PSU by be quiet! and since we always like to know exactly what it is that we are giving away one such PSU ended up in our test bench.

OCZ has done a refresh of their Fatal1ty power supply series, but it may not have been for the better. Let's take a close look at the new PSU now.

Be Quiet are one of the most respected power supply vendors currently on the market. Combining performance, sleek aesthetics, silent operation, innovative functionality and reasonable pricing it is hardly a surprise they have managed to snatch the title of Germany’s number one selling PSU vendor. In the past we have taken a look at two power supplies from Be Quiet: the Pure Power L8 CM 730W and the Straight Power E9 680W and both walked away with eTeknix awards due to a combination of the aforementioned features.
Be Quiet have an extensive portfolio of power supply segments starting from the “most premium” to the “most budget” they are the Dark Power Pro, then Straight Power, then Pure Power, then SFX Power, then TFX Power and then System Power. Today we have with us one of the most premium models, and more specifically the Dark Power Pro 10 550W CM power supply, with the CM denoting cable management or a modular design. Some of the features of the specific model we have today include 80 Plus Gold certification, a 135mm Silent Wings fan, a rubber anti-vibration brace, a almost fully modular design (only the 24 pin comes pre-attached) and an innovative “overclocking key” which allows you to toggle between quad 12 volt rails or a single 12 volt rail.

The Cooler Master Game Xtreme II is the 2nd generation of the extremely popular Game Xtreme PSU series. The new GXII PSUs have been tweaked and come with a quiet HDB fan & nonstop USB power. The nonstop USB power lead enables power to the USB ports, even when the system is turned off. The 650W model is an excellent choice and it's affordable, 80 Plus certified, has a single +12V rail & comes with a 5 year warranty.

The nonstop USB power lead enables power to the USB ports, even when the system is turned off. The 550W model is affordable, 80 Plus certified, has a single +12V rail & comes with a 5 year warranty. I suspect this series of PSUs will be as sought after as the 1st.
