Power Supply
Within the PSU market, Antec would seem to be one of the most willing to push the boundaries and raise standards; and perhaps the ultimate move came in the form of the company’s very own form factor – CPX.
Bearing in mind Antec’s very impressive ATX form factor power supplies (Signature and TruePower series perhaps the most recognised throughout the computing community), it may seem a strange concept to move away from the traditional ATX power supply. The technology behind the idea though makes perfect sense...
The larger casing and externally mounted fan allow for a more spacious interior combined with a larger fan to provide greater airflow at lower speeds.
The unit we’re focusing on in this review is the CP-1000 – the second member of the CPX series following on from the flagship CP-850 and now we’ve unearthed the thinking behind CPX, let’s take a closer look..
Power Supply
Instead of releasing a longer 850 W power supply, Antec decided to build a taller unit. Because of it is bigger, CP-850 only fits a few cases from Antec (Twelve Hundred, P183 and P193). Is it a better solution that regular-sized units? Let's see.
Power Supply
When it comes to PSUs, for years now the ATX unit has taken centre stage with little thought going into producing a different form factor. However, Antec have changed all this and decided that it is time for a revamp. Their new form factor, christened the CPX, is a lot bigger so as to allow more room for the guts and allow a less restrictive airflow. Electrically, it’s just an ATX power supply but unfortunately the size means that a limited selection of cases can take the unit – unless of course you’re into modding. Antec clearly hope the new form factor catches on and their first model is the CP-850, but is all the hype really justified?

We are looking at a 650W Antec EarthWatts Power Supply Unit from Antec. It is 80 Plus
Platinum certified unit with high quality components. But what about the performance?
Power Supply
The new EarthWatts series represents a huge step for Antec as these new units are their first 80Plus Platinum rated units to come to market. Antec currently offers the latest iteration of EarthWatts power supplies in 450W, 550W and 650W varieties.
Antec is hopping on the Platinum bandwagon strong with claims that the EarthWatts 650W Platinum unit can reduce power consumption by up to 25%.
Power Supply
Antec have a wide range of quality products in their portfolio, and their power supplies have always been big sellers. They are updating their mainstream ‘value for money’ EarthWatts range with two new models, a 650W and a 750W power supply. Today we are looking at the 650W model, with the 750W review to come very shortly.

Antec have been releasing some great products lately, many of which have been reviewed on these very pages. I personally really like their latest Kuhler 620 and 920 liquid coolers and the Rockus speakers certainly hit the spot. They are updating their mainstream ‘high value for money’ power supplies and today we are looking at their latest 750W unit.
