Since getting our greedy mits on an oscilloscope XSR has been back in full swing with PSU reviews, or at least half a PSU review. Today we’ll be doing the same with a couple of Thortech units, part of Thunderbolt Plus range. One’s 800w, the other 1000w. While our test rig can’t pull anywhere near the maximum of these units, let’s see if we can stress them a little.

Most of our readers are very familiar with PC Power & Cooling, so we will skip right to the chase with their latest product. PC Power & Cooling has yet again revamped the Silencer series of power supplies that has become almost infamous for their performance, reliability and low cost.
One of the first things that you will notice is that this unit only has a single 46A 12V rail. It is becoming rare to find a power supply that isn't capable for outputting 99% or more of its power on the 12V rail, but here we have one. What it lacks in 12V output, it makes up for on the minor rails. Both the 3.3V and 12V rails are capable of 24A each with a combined maximum output of 130W. This is more juice on the minor rails than even the recently reviewed XFX ProSeries 1000W PSU. Total combined continuous output is 600W.

It’s always fun when a new company sends you its stuff. You get to see what a big player of the future might be like, or at very least, you end up with some hardware that almost no one else has as the firm doesn’t last very long. Today I’m looking at a PSU from Super Flower, which certainly likes its butterflies. This unit is known as the Golden King, featuring platinum efficiency, a unique thermal profile and the ability to “overlock” to 650w from its standard 550w.

Thermaltake's Dr. Power II works as advertised, is relatively accurate and has an easily used and intuitive interface. Two testing modes allow the user to make a quick pass or zero in on a suspect connector or rail. It's compact, lightweight and the large LCD screen is easy to read.

This time around it is for their Platimax series of power supplies which offer superb performance at Platinum rated efficiency. We took an early look at the Platimax series late last year when the only PSU we could get our hands on at the time was the 600W model.
We wanted to follow up and see if their high wattage offerings were of the same quality as we were sure our readers would be interested in Platinum efficiency in an enthusiasts quality power supply.

Thermaltake have been active in the power supply sector in the last year, releasing a wide range of supplies to target the broadest possible audience. Today we look at the latest power supply from the company, the Smart M550W, a modular design with 80 Plus Bronze Certification.

If you are white and you live in North America, chances are that you are not a part of the visible minority. That is, unless you are studying engineering here at the University of Calgary, or you are a computer power supply. While the Faculty of Engineering is dominated by Asians and most PSUs are black, a little over a year ago, NZXT decided to be brave and decided to be different -- they made a white power supply unit. The 80 Plus Gold certified NZXT HALE90 is certainly nothing short of impressive. It combines excellent performance, impeccable reliability, near silent operation, and top notch efficiency along with a sleek, unique appearance. So if the NZXT HALE90 is so distinguished from the competition, why did they resort to conformity and make the HALE82? As its name suggests, not only is it no longer over ninety percent efficient, it has also the same appearance as every other PSU. Hmm. So is distinguished excellence out, and blending in with the crowd back? Or is there more to the story? Read on to find out!
