Power Supply
It has been quite a while since we have taken a look at any of the power supplies that SilverStone offers and we have missed a few of their offerings. The last time we took a look at one of their units was back in 2010 when we reviewed the ST50F-P which we were quite pleased with.

We take our final look at the SilverStone Strider Gold Evolution series to find out if the 1000W model is a good compromise between the 850W and 1200W models.
Power Supply
The Strider Gold 750W does have a quite a bit of good points going for it and a few excellent ones, namely: efficiency and some pretty decent line regulation on the 12V rail (which reasonably, we care quite a bit more for than the 5V rail). The unit is also built extraordinarily well, inside and out. Still, while we can hardly discount the fact that the Strider Gold 750W is priced just a wee bit higher than it should, that decision is for the individual and despite priced a tad higher than other units, the Strider Gold is still a solid power supply.
Power Supply
When Jakob visited SilverStone at CES 2011 earlier this month, they had on display their latest series of Strider Gold power supplies, and we are happy to have for review today the 750W model. The 750W Strider Gold has many of the same specifications as the 750W Strider Plus (Silver) such as a 750W continuous rating at 40°C, all modular cables, single +12V rail, 19dBA 135mm variable speed fan, 2200uF capacitors on the PCI-E cables and all the same protection features. How the 750W Strider Gold differs from the 750W Strider Plus, aside from the name, is primarily in its greater efficiency.

Within the last decade we've seen the 80Plus certification become a widely accepted standard and further expanded into Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum levels as efficiency improves. Combine lower hardware power requirements with more efficient power supplies and we start to see what had been a steady upward trend in power supply size begin to level off and perhaps even decline. Where 750W or 850W may have once been the norm, we're now seeing units in the 500W to 650W range become more popular.
Power Supply
Lets see if this power supply with the 80 Plus Gold certification, a fully modular cabling system, and a single +12 V rail is a good option.

If you are the proud owner of a new high end SLI or CrossfireX gaming system, then you might be in the market for a powerful, future proof power supply. The product we are going to be looking at today will be of interest as it is 80 Plus Gold Certified modular design capable of outputting 1200W, with peaks up to 1300W. Is the SilverStone Strider Gold 1200W power supply good enough to be on your next shortlist?

The Silverstone Strider Plus 500W (ST50F-P) is quite impressive. Yes, it currently retails for $74.99 incl. shipping, nearly double the price of the ST50F-ES; however, it also is leagues ahead of the entry-level model in every aspect. The electrical performance is significantly better, with the voltage line ripple suppressed down to levels worthy of a performance product and efficiency which should exceed 84% most of the time during typical usage. It also runs much cooler and far quieter, making it ideal for use in everyday work and gaming systems, especially in quiet environments, where a noisy computer would be uncomfortable...
