Power Supply
What we have on the bench today is a power supply from a company that most of you have probably never heard of. Sentey is a company whose headquarters resides in Florida with an operations center in California and manufacturing in China. The company is also expanding distribution centers in Latin America and is poised to make quite a name for itself. Currently the company offers a wide selection of computer cases, coolers, video cards and power supplies.

The Seasonic Platinum 660W, 760W and 860W are basically perfect power supplies. They have the best low-load efficiency we've ever seen in this segment, the efficiency at higher loads is also good, their ripple is outstanding and the semi-passive design makes them inaudible in most circumstances. Had some of the cables been a little longer there would have been nothing we could complain about.

ModXStream Pro is a power supply series from OCZ featuring a modular cabling system and a very attractive price tag, at this moment featuring 500 W, 600 W and 700 W models, with the manufacturer promising that these units can deliver their labeled wattage at 40º C. We've already reviewed the 600 W version and were quite impressed by its performance. Let's see if the 500 W model is also a good pick.

This particular power supply is stylish with substance, offering stable rails and a steady 650watt stream of power from a manufacturer that we all know and trust. This power supply should be more than ample for most computer systems out there, including extreme gaming rigs with high end graphics cards to boot.

The AK6 is the latest power supply series from 3R System, offered in two wattages, 500 W and 600 W, with (models ended with "M" or without a modular cabling system. They come with the 80 Plus Bronze certification. Let's test the 500 W model with a modular cabling system, which the manufacturer promises a peak wattage of 600 W.

The traditional OEM is entering the retail market. Lets see if their 850 W offering with 80 Plus Bronze certification and modular cabling system is a good pick.

Tuniq Potency 750 W is a 80 Plus Bronze-certified power supply that can be found costing USD 100 (or only USD 70 after a mail-in rebate). The price is right, but what about performance? Let's see.

When building a new PC, it is important not to overlook the importance of a power supply. Without solid, stable power delivery a system can experience hard locks and in worst case scenarios, even component failure. Thankfully the market has no shortage of high quality, cost effective solutions available and today we will be looking at a product from Antec which retails for a modest £85 inc vat.

If your Mini-ITX system won't contain a dedicated graphics card, then all you need is a 300W power supply. Out of the FSP and Seasonic PSUs, the latter is our favourite because it's more silent. In terms of efficiency they're both about the same. If you intend to use a separate graphics card, you should go for a 450W model. The non-Gold version of Silverstone is more affordable, more silent, and only slightly less efficient, and that's our choice for that category.
