At CES 2010 SilverStone announced that it would be consolidating its power supply lines into a single series, the Strider. That model name has been in use for years, however all of the new Strider models feature 80Plus certification and modular cables, something the older units didn't offer. The one we have for review today is the Strider Plus 600W. Appearing very similar to its 750W sibling, this unit has identical 150mm x 160mm x 86mm dimensions, the same silent 135mm fan, single +12V rail design and offers many of the same protection features such as over-current, over-power, over/under-voltage and short-circuit.

The Strider Plus power supply series from SilverStone has 500 W, 600 W, 750 W, 850 W, 1,000 W, and 1,500 W models, all with a fully modular cabling system. The 500 W model has the 80 Plus Bronze certification. There are two versions for the 600 W model: with the 80 Plus Bronze certification (ST-60F-P) or with the 80 Plus Silver certification (ST60F-PS), which is the model we are going to review. The other models have the 80 Plus Silver certification.

The SilverStone Strider Plus is a power supply series with a full modular cabling, with models ranging from 500 W to 1,000 W. The 500 W and 600 W models have 80 Plus Bronze certification, while the 750 W, 850 W, and 1,000 W models have 80 Plus Silver certification. We've already reviewed the 750 W model, which received our Golden Award. Let's see if the more inexpensive 500 W model is also a good buy.

A few weeks ago we reviewed the Silverstone Strider Gold 1200W power supply and we were very impressed with the results. If you can’t quite stretch to the £200+ asking price, then today’s review product might just hit the spot. The SilverStone Strider Plus 1000W power supply costs around £100 less, but maintains a modular design with 80 Plus Silver Certification. Is it worth your money?

It's hard to believe it is already February -- it feels like it wasn't too long ago since it was the holidays filled with food, comfort, and in some cases, lots of snow. Of course, in various parts of the world, there is still snow, but at this point, I doubt we wish to see anymore around here in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Either way, it wasn't too far back when we last took a look at a power supply. In fact, it happened to be the last article written in 2010, with none other than the NZXT HALE90 750W report. To start off the month of February, we decided to report on yet another power supply; at the same time, the first one of 2011 as well. The SilverStone Strider Gold ST75F-G 750W we will be taking a look at today is not exactly as unique as the HALE90 in terms of looks, but it is more of a follow-up to the SilverStone Strider Plus ST75F-P 750W with a 80 Plus Gold rating to boot. SilverStone is renowned for their quality products in the computer sector with products such as cases, fans, power supplies, and much more. This will be their first power supply with the Gold rating, and to reuse our slightly dated joke, their first 'stride', so to speak. (Man, is that ever getting old, guess I haven't quite gotten over 2010 yet either.) With that aside, without further delay, let us jump right into today's report and see if it is more than simply swapping out the "Plus" for a "Gold".

There are many PSUs in the Strider Gold series, but currently only 2 in the Gold S Series; the ST75F-GS 750W & ST85F-GS 850W models. Their main focus on PSUs recently have been on downsizing the enthusiasts PSUs. Note that these are the smallest fully modular ATX PSUs in their wattage class. This makes them compatible with all ATX cases, even SFF cases. The SilverStone Strider Gold S Series ST75F-GS Power Supply offers clean, quality power, it's 100% modular, comes with a quiet fan and is 80 Plus Gold certified.

The ST85F-G Evolution shares the same feature summary as the rest of the Evolution series. It has full of protection features including over temperature protection, but the unit is not rated for 100% continuous output at 50C. It is instead rated for 100% continuous output at 40C. The power supply is fully modular and fully sleeved. The full modular design also allows for the use of SilverStone's PP05 short cable kit.
Antares Pro comes in with the cheapest price of $168.99. Alternatively you can find the unit for $169.99 at Directron. Hardcore Newegg fans will find the unit a tad more expensive, costing $195.82 after shipping. At about $170, the ST85F-G Evolution is one of the cheapest 80Plus Gold rated 850W models available. SilverStone backs the unit by a three year warranty.

To make the Strider Gold power supplies even better, SilverStone replaced the fan with SilverStone’s own Air Penetrator and various components were replaced with newer versions for a small boost in efficiency and performance. Thanks to the fan and component upgrades, Silverstone came out with the the Strider Gold Evolution series. This series ranges from 750W to 1200W with 80 PLUS Gold level efficiency, ±3% voltage regulation, ±3% ripple & noise, and high amperage single +12V rail as its main features. Read on to see how the 750W model performs!

The new SiverStone Strider Gold Evolution series of power supplies is comprised of 750 W, 850 W, 1,000 W, and 1,200 W models, all featuring the 80 Plus Gold certification, a removable air filter for the fan, and a full modular cabling system, meaning that even the main motherboard cable is detachable. Let's see if the 750 W model is a good option.
