Power Supply
Power Supply
Arctic Cooling releases a new product with silent rotating fan under their own brand name. Overall a properly priced product with low noise, good performance and some issues with cable length.

It has been awhile since our last PSU review and today we are glad to introduce you another interesting, high performance PSU. Our hero today is Arctic Cooling Fusion 550R which is a 550W ATX2.2 PSU. Besides green and high efficient, Arctic Cooling Fusion 550R has another unique feature; an ultra quiet 80mm fan. Let us go through further.

Unusually for a psu the Fusion 550R comes in a clear blown plastic type “box”, nothing wrong with that though, as it shows of the psu in all its glory with its “ECO80” sticker in full view. Also on the front is a small picture of the unit along with a few lines regarding the features of the unit.

Arctic Cooling owes their good reputation almost entirely to high performance cooling products, but they are making concentrated efforts to diversify their product range. Today we will have a look at a new product from them, the Fusion 550R PSU. Carrying an interesting name and boasting high performance and many features, it is the one and only PSU Arctic Cooling released. Is it worth being on a shortlist in such a competitive section of the market?
Power Supply
To start off, we must say that we were really disappointed with the name chosen by Arctic Cooling for this product. 550RF leads you to believe that this is a 550 W product, when in fact it is a 500 W power supply. The 550 W on the name is the peak power, which according to the manufacturer can be sustained for only ONE SECOND. This kind of gimmick is typically used by low-end manufacturers and we wouldn't expect this from a Swiss-based company. But besides that, is Fusion 550RF a good product? Let's see.
Power Supply
The Arctic Cooling Fusion 550RF is manufactured by Seasonic for Arctic Cooling and it is internally identical to Corsair VX450W and Antec Earthwatts 500W power supplies. Read on to figure out how it can be rated 100W higher than the Corsair VX450W and to see how it does on an Intel Core i7 920 system!
