Power Supply
When it comes to PSUs, for years now the ATX unit has taken centre stage with little thought going into producing a different form factor. However, Antec have changed all this and decided that it is time for a revamp. Their new form factor, christened the CPX, is a lot bigger so as to allow more room for the guts and allow a less restrictive airflow. Electrically, it’s just an ATX power supply but unfortunately the size means that a limited selection of cases can take the unit – unless of course you’re into modding. Antec clearly hope the new form factor catches on and their first model is the CP-850, but is all the hype really justified?
Power Supply
Instead of releasing a longer 850 W power supply, Antec decided to build a taller unit. Because of it is bigger, CP-850 only fits a few cases from Antec (Twelve Hundred, P183 and P193). Is it a better solution that regular-sized units? Let's see.

Within the PSU market, Antec would seem to be one of the most willing to push the boundaries and raise standards; and perhaps the ultimate move came in the form of the company’s very own form factor – CPX.
Bearing in mind Antec’s very impressive ATX form factor power supplies (Signature and TruePower series perhaps the most recognised throughout the computing community), it may seem a strange concept to move away from the traditional ATX power supply. The technology behind the idea though makes perfect sense...
The larger casing and externally mounted fan allow for a more spacious interior combined with a larger fan to provide greater airflow at lower speeds.
The unit we’re focusing on in this review is the CP-1000 – the second member of the CPX series following on from the flagship CP-850 and now we’ve unearthed the thinking behind CPX, let’s take a closer look..
Power Supply
Not too long ago Antec introduced the CPX form factor, a design of their own, which allows for much larger PSUs than ATX. Antec claims that the larger size of the CPX power supply units will allow all manufacturers to create better and cheaper products due to the space increase and the improved airflow. Today we will have a look at Antecs best CPX form factor power supply, the CP-1000. As the name suggests, the CP-1000 can output up to 1kW and Antec claims that it is designed to bridge performance with value.

Antec sells decent high-end power supplies, but how about their more affordable models? Today we decided to review a 500 W from their Basiq series (BP500U) that costs only USD 60. Will it survive our tests?

Andyson is another OEM manufacturer that is trying to enter the retail market using their own brand. Let's take a look at their Nuclear 850 power supply.

Amacrox is a new player on the power supply market, with its products being manufactured by FSP. Will their Free Style 650 W unit survive our tests?

Amacrox Free Earth 88PLUS 600 W (AX600-88FE) is a 80 Plus Silver-certified unit, with the manufacturer promising 88% efficiency at typical load (i.e., 300 W). Let's see if this unit is a good product.
