The Value 430 from Nexus is an entry-level power supply that the manufacturer claims to be one of the quietest power supplies available today. The manufacturer also promises efficiency above 80%, even though this unit doesn't have the 80 Plus certification. Let's see if the Nexus Value 430 is a good buy.
Silent Pro M is a power supply series from Cooler Master featuring a modular cabling system and a single +12 V rail, at this moment featuring 500 W, 600 W, 700 W, 850 W and 1,000 W. The first three models have only the standard 80 Plus certification, while the 850 W and 1,000 W model have the 80 Plus Bronze certification, showing that they are based on a different design. Let's see if the 600 W model (a.k.a. RS-600-AMBA-D3) is a good buy.
The Smart Series is a new entry-level power supply series from Thermaltake, with the standard 80 Plus certification. Coming to replace the old Purepower and TR2 "standard" series, this new series features 430 W, 530 W, 630 W, and 730 W models, all with the standard 80 Plus certification. We've already tested the 630 W model, which proved to have a terrific price/performance ratio. Let's see if the 730 W model follows in the same footsteps.
The Basiq power supply series from Antec is targeted to users with serious budget restrictions. The new VP350 and VP450 models are the most entry-level power supplies offered by Antec, as they don't have a PFC circuit or 80 Plus certification. We've already reviewed the VP450, which achieved terrific performance for its class. Now it is time for us to test the 350 W model.
When OCZ bought PC Power & Cooling, the company said that PC Power & Cooling power supplies wouldn't have modular cabling systems. Well, scratch that. The latest release from the brand, the Silencer Mk III, features a modular cabling system and carries the 80 Plus Bronze certification, coming in 400 W, 500 W, and 600 W versions. Let's test the 600 W version and see if it is a good choice.

Antec know that high end PSUs are not within the reach of everyone's budget though and so there are lower specification models in the family which have a more understated design with lower power rating and price. Today we have one of those models, the High Current Gamer 620w, attached to our test centre and will establish whether Antec have been able to maintain their high standards at the lower price point.

Tell you what -- first review of the year, and we got something good in our hands. Late last year, there were some particularly unique power supplies released into the market; such as the Seasonic Platinum and Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybrid. Obviously, as you can tell by my hyperlink, the latter was already covered by yours truly back in November 2011. What is unique about these power supplies boils down to the fact that both PSU's internal cooling fan can be shut off completely under relatively light loads. As a quiet PC enthusiast, this is like a gift from God himself -- fusing together a compromise-free solution by combining both power and silence into one single package. Unfortunately, it seems Satan had a hand in the Silent Pro Hybrid, because there is one problem with it: The fan control system goes bazerk sometimes. That's too bad. So what we have here at APH Networks this morning is yet another product of similar ideas, but claims to have superior execution. Firstly, the Seasonic Platinum, as its name suggests, is 80 Plus Platinum certified. Secondly, the fan can remain off until 30% load is reached, which translates to 300W for our 1000W unit. Considering how most PCs don't suck down 300W even under moderate loads, this is a very impressive and crucial figure. Therefore, without further delay, is the Seasonic Platinum 1000W a power supply from Heaven, pure and unadulterated? Read on to find out!
