Right on track, well after Ivy Bridge, AMD has released their second generation of Accelerated Processing Units in the form of the Trinity series A10-5800K and the A8-5600K. Last week, we brought you a preview of these two APUs just to give you a taste of their gaming performance and some of their specifications. Today, at Benchmark Reviews, we are going in detail for a full work-over of the A10-5800K APU.

Nobody buys a CPU with unlocked multipliers to run it at stock frequencies, which you will see inside the many reviews around the web today. So what happens when you pit the flagship architectures together near the edge of conventional air and water cooling, Vishera FX ($199) vs Ivy Bridge ($329), at 4.8GHz? Which one will the discerning gamer choose?

Two things are clear. AMD's claim that its processors should run better with Windows 8 seems to be unsubstantiated, at least the benchmarks do not confirm this. Secondly, just like the gaming performance, there is no noteworthy difference between CPU performance in Windows 8 compared to Windows 7.

We all love doing computer upgrades, but sometimes we have to ask ourselves if a full system upgrade is worth it or necessary. There are times that you may only gain a small percentage of a performance boost, where there are other times that you gain significant increases. Today I am going to compare my original Intel Kentsfield CPU and X38 motherboard to a shiny new Haswell CPU and Z87 motherboard.

In many benchmarks we've seen excellent performance gains for the new 12-core flagship Xeon E5-2697 v2 compared to the previous generation 8-core flagship Xeon E5-2690. In completely multi-threaded workloads that depend solely on the CPU, that performance increase was often more than 40 percent. The 12 cores in the E5-2697 v2 use the same amount of power as the 8 cores in the E5-2690. More performance with the same level of power usage, that of course increases the performance-per-watt: by 44 percent in one benchmark. Such an increase in performance without an increase in power consumption is quite rare, from generation to generation. When you compare it to servers from two, three or four generations back, it's clear that you will quickly earn back the initial investment of upgrading to the most recent generation server processors.

We check out one of the upcoming CPUs that the Intel Haswell refresh brings to the table. Let's see just what the i7 4790 and Z97 can do in our testing!

For those of you following what Intel has been up to, they officially announced their Broadwell based CPUs at Computex this year. Last year we did see a Broadwell based Core-M CPU come out for some ultrbooks but beyond that everyone has been waiting to see what they would have to offer for desktops and normal laptops. Well coverage has been trickling out and you can expect to see CPUs finding their way into stores soon as well. Today I’m going to take a look at the Core i7-5775C, Intel’s flagship desktop model. You will also notice their isn’t a new chipset launch to go with this one as these 14nm Broadwell CPUs run on the same 9 Series Intel chipset that the Haswell based CPUs ran on.
