After so much postponing, AMD is finally releasing its new processor series based on the "Bulldozer" architecture, the FX, featuring models with four, six, or eight processing cores. Let's test the top-of-the-line, the eight-core AMD FX-8150 (3.6 GHz), which is placed between the Core i5-2500K (3.3 GHz) and the Core i7-2600K (3.4 GHz) in terms of price. We are also including the six-core Phenom II X6 1100T (3.3 GHz), which was previously the fastest processor from AMD. Let's see who the winner is.

We've known for a little while now, that Intel had something up their sleeves with regards to Sandybridge and now that the cat is out of the bag, we can shout out that it's the i7 2700k. Taking over as the Sandy Bridge flagship processor is quite vital information to us as we will now be using it for all of our Sandy Bridge based tests, and we can tell you now; that's a lot.

Intel Core i7-3960X Processor and X79 Chipset Launch Review featuring: ASUS Rampage IV Extreme, ASRock X79 Extreme4, MSI X79A-GD68 8D, ECS X79R-AX and Intel DX79SI Extreme Series Motherboards.

We don't get to use our Surround Vision / Eyefinity setup that much with the last time we used it being when we tested the MARS 2 from ASUS. Really, though, since then there's not been much reason to use it. With video card setups being pretty quiet lately and nothing changing in that department this year, the monitor setup has just been gathering hardware around it. Until today, though, where I found myself cleaning for an hour before I could actually move my testbed next to it.

The Core i7-3820 will be released soon and already available to buy is the i7-3930K. We will be taking a look at both to determine where they sit in comparison to the older i7-990X, AMD FX-8150 and Intel i7-2700k in a selection of real world and synthetic tests.

While we get our fair share of evaluation products on NDA here at APH Networks, we don't usually do performance previews on the stuff we get -- either we get the review done on time, or, well, we release it at our own schedule, haha. But here's the deal: With Intel's latest Core i7-3770K "Ivy Bridge" processor sitting in our labs for the last little while, I am as excited to share our experience with you as much as you are interested in finding out how it performs in the benchmarks. Being the 'tick' part of Intel's 'tick-tock' release cycle, what does the 22nm die shrink bring to the table today? To find out, here is a set of quick and dirty benchmarks along with a preliminary overclocking result to go. We will have a full review ready in a few weeks from now (Having a series of Electrical Engineering exams in a row last week certainly did not help). But for now, let's not waste any more time, and move straight into the meat!
