The 3.2GHz AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition is the companies' latest quad-core processor, and it's being released in tandem with a new memory tuning tool called 'Black Edition Memory Profiles', or B.E.M.P. for short. The Phenom II's 128-bit wide memory controller still operates at 2GHz, although it has had an important fix: DDR3 memory modules can now run at 1333MHz speeds in dual-channel mode. The Phenom II 940 could only manage 1333MHz speed in single-channel mode, as soon as both memory channels were filled the memory controller would drop down to DDR3-1066MHz memory speeds.

Today at Computex, AMD took the wraps off of two highly anticipated processors: the Athlon II X2 250 and the Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition. Both are based on AMD's 45nm SOI process with the key difference being the amount of L3 cache. The Phenom II X2 550, codenamed Callisto, gets the full 6 MB cache of the Phenom II family and will serve as AMD's new flagship dual-core processor. The Athlon II X2 250, on the other hand, is based on the new native dual-core Regor die that omits the L3 cache completely and targets the mainstream segment. Benchmark Reviews was fortunate to receive samples of both processors and today we can officially share with you our results. In this review, we focus on the Phenom II X2 550 BE HDZ550WGIBOX.

AMD created a small number of limited edition “TWKR” processors expressly for the extreme overclocking community in appreciation for their record performance feats with Dragon platform technology and AMD Phenom II processors. These processors are designed to reach the utmost performance barriers of the AMD Phenom II processor and operate beyond the specifications of typical production level processors. As speculated, it’s a high current chip that can take the extreme stresses of Liquid Nitrogen overclocking. Our testing of the TWKR showed that we could reach ~6.6GHz on Liquid Nitrogen. It would be a shame if only the top overclockers and media would be able to use these, so we have teamed up with AMD to give away one of these overclocking monsters. With high end air or water cooling you should be able to take a TWKR processor up to 4.0-4.1GHz with ease and for those that want to try out dry ice, liquid nitrogen, or liquid helium you are looking at 5GHz - 7GHz depending on your pot and cooling method. These processors are monsters and have been selected and binned as being the best of the best.

Was das Komplettpaket leistet, klärt unser Test.

AMD announced this morning, the first ever quad-core processor for less than $100! The AMD Athlon II X4 620 processor is the industry’s first and only sub-$100 quad-core processor at this time as it is priced at $99. The other processor being announced today is the AMD Athlon II X4 630 processor, which costs $122. Read on to see how the perform and overclock.

In the end, there is no miracle. Athlon II X2 215 is a bit faster than Celeron, but slower than Pentium. It's positioned on a par with the lowest-end Celeron anyway. Besides, it works well with DDR3 memory. Something which LGA775 processors, especially low-end, cannot boast of.
