AMD has just released their latest quad-core speed-bump in order to give consumers the option for a little more bang and a little more buck. With the release of the AMD Phenom II X4 975 'Black Edition' processor, AMD has added a new flagship processor to their Phenom II X4 quad-core product line with this 3.6GHz beast. Will it be enough to keep up with the offerings from Intel?

There really is nothing "new" to talk about here. Well ok - there is the fact that both of these got a slight speed increase over what is currently available in their lines. The 975 BE gets pushed to 3.6GHz while the 840 gets a bump to 3.2. Overall, not a bad increase, but we do want to see if this is all marketing or if it really means better performance for the consumer.

While Intel Sandy Bridge-MS does not pledge inherent multi-GPU support, it is a waste to ignore its performance potential - particularly for multi-GPU systems. What the Intel Sandy Bridge microarchitecture offers for multi-GPU configurations, is higher IPC that alleviates processor bottlenecks which have plagued multi-GPU systems for so long.

Almost two years ago, AMD began to push its successful Dragon Platform for desktop systems. The fastest chip in the line-up was the Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition. Today, AMD releases the latest in a long line of Black Edition CPUs, in the shape of the quad core Phenom II X4 975. Today we will detail how to get the most from this chip with a step by step overclocking guide, which will push it to the limit.

AMD has released a new processor into their lineup. This time around we have the introduction of a new series, Phenom II x4 840 3.2GHz. This new chip brings the Athlon II architecture over to the Phenom II space by not providing any L3 cache. So, what can this newbie do? Lets find out.

Intel is launching this month their new CPUs based on the "Sandy Bridge" architecture. Let's check the performance of the new Core i5-2500K (3.3 GHz) and compare it to its main competitor from AMD, the new Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition (3.6 GHz) that is being released today. We also added the Core i5-661 in the mix.
