The war between Intel and AMD has been heating up, but just not in the way that we traditionally think. For many the war is all about the GHz (or the speed) of the CPUs. For the most part this is true, but it is also about bang for the buck. This is a message that AMD is more than comfortable sending to the market. In fact, it is one they have been giving ever since the days of the K6-2 CPUs.

Today AMD release their new Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition processor, the successor to the ever popular 1090T Black Edition. As the 1100T doesn’t look that exciting on paper (with a 100mhz clock increase), we felt we would approach this review from a slightly different angle – taking our readers on a ‘step by step’ guide to see how far we could push the chip with some hardcore air cooling.

Today AMD are launching the latest version of their X6 CPU in the form of the Phenom 2 X6 1100T Black Edition. This new CPU is the fastest 6-core AMD chip to be released and comes in at a price which is almost identical to Intels quad core i7-950. For that reason we will be putting the two head to head in order to find out which performs best in a selection of tests from gaming to media playback and encoding.

AMD however, have been releasing more and more CPU's onto the market, especially with the X6 range of Phenom II's with the flagship being the 1090T clocked to 3.2GHz and a turbo speed of 3.6GHz all for around the £190 mark.

With the upcoming release of the Phenom II we take a look at what we can expect by overclocking every aspect of our Phenom X4 9950 CPU. HT Link, Memory, Northbridge and RAW CPU speed scaling is compared in-depth to help you get the most out of your Phenom setup.

There are many essential components to every computer – some perhaps are less important i.e. sound cards etc – but most are vital. One such component which the entire system depends on is the CPU; basically the CPU is the “heart” of the computer. But it is more than that, it is the component which performs programmed instructions, performs arithmetic and controls data input/output functions.

With the release of the Deneb based quad core processors known as the Phenom II series, AMD started to grab a nice share of the mid-range and higher market share by offering quad-core processors for quite a bit less than the competition. Back in June of 2009, Benchmark Reviews was there when AMD started a new trend with Deneb based processors that didn't quite meet the rigorous standards of testing on all four cores. Rather than tossing the processors that had two or three cores that still functioned perfectly, AMD decided to turn off the bad cores and release them as much less expensive dual and triple-core processors. The dual-core versions got a couple of extra perks as well. For one, the price was enticing at $99. For another, the processors were Black Editions, meaning they had unlocked multipliers for easier overclocking. The first black edition dual-core Phenom-II to hit the market was the X2-550BE. Just over a year later and 200MHz faste! r, AMD is releasing the Phenom-II X2-560BE at 3.3GHz with the same promise, to give would-be overclockers and enthusiasts the opportunity to toy around without spending a bundle. In this article, Benchmark Reviews is bringing you the details on the X2-560BE. The new dual-core's unlocked multiplier will be pushed to the limit and we will see how it measures up to the competition.

The New Year is starting off well for the computer hardware industry. Intel is releasing the long-awaited Sandy Bridge platform and AMD is filling in more of the Phenom-II and Athlon-II series. The two AMD CPUs set for release in early January 2011 are the Phenom-II X4-840 and the Phenom-II X4-975BE. The Phenom-II X4-840 HDX840WFK42GM is the latest budget quad-core processor released by AMD. Set for release at an MSRP of only $102, the Phenom-II X4-840 could be a very affordable quad-core processor that brings a high level of performance to your computer without breaking the bank. In this article, Benchmark Reviews will help you decide if you want to spend some of your holiday cash on the new Phenom-II X4-840 CPU.
