Today we have the A8-3850 APU running on Gigabytes A75-UD4H motherboard and will be putting them through a selection of tests to find out how they compare to the equivalent i3/Z68 system. Whether you are interested in media conversion, playback or gaming performance this article will demonstrate where the A8 and A75 fit into the current market.

With AMDs' Llano and Bulldozer line releasing within 8 months of each other it was only a matter of time before we saw them merge. The main complaint about Llano was the inability to overclock anything. Well now we see 2 unlocked versions come into the market: the A8-3870k and the A6-3670k. With AMDs rich heritage in overclocking and GPUs what kind of performance can we expect out of these? Lets first take a look at the new line desktop Llano APUs.

Another AMD processor reached our mailbox a week ago, it's the Phenom 2 905e which is supposed to be a mid range processor. You can get this for around 180$ so it's not to badly priced if the performance is decent. We are going to compare it vs the high end Phenom 2 955 and mid end 940 from AMD to see where we can place this processor performance wise.

Today we will be taking a look at the latest processor in the Phenom family, the Phenom 2 X4 940 Black Edition. This CPU will be AMDs highest performing processor until the DDR3 variants reach the market later this year. Through a selection of benchmarks including media encoding, Photoshop and gaming we will establish how good the Phenom 2 is, and whether it is worth the upgrade for existing Phenom users.

Today AMD release the latest AM3 processor, the 955 Black Edition, the first to have a real chance of competing with the 940 in that all important enthusiast market. Combined with a high specification 790FX based motherboard and ATI GPU it creates what could be AMD’s most powerful system ever.

AMD first launched the 955 Black Edition and 945 CPUs back in April both based on the 45nm Phenom II technology. With Intel seemingly forging ahead in terms of performance with its i7 series, AMD’s new products aim to compete more with Intel’s quad-core range and should offer a cheaper upgrade for users with an AM2+ platform as the AM3 CPUs are backwards compatible with AM2+ sockets.
The 955 BE, of which we are taking a look at today, is a Black Edition product, which in effect means that the CPU features a unlocked multiplier; a huge plus for the overclockers. A dual DDR2 and DRR3 memory controller is also crammed into the chip.
The 900 series of AMD processors are all quad-core CPUs with a 6MB L3 cache, 2MB larger than the 800 series and the stock speed of the 955 BE was the fastest until it was superseded very recently by the 965 BE which clocks in at a whopping 3.4GHz. However, today we focus on the 955, let's check it out

AMDs release on July 1st 2008 included the introduction to three new quad core processors. One of which is the 9950, which was released to fix the TLB erratum problems on the 9900. The other two released were products new to the market, the 9150e and the 9350e

Opening up the little box we discovered the handpicked AMD Phenom II 42 TWKR Black Edition processor. It's not every day you get a processor delivered to your door step that was handpicked to be an overclocking winner and will never be for sale to the public. This is every overclocker's dream and we are more than willing to overclock this little guy to the max with liquid nitrogen!
