Performance wise, core i7 is in a league of its own, the hyperthreading gives a real tangible boost to multithreaded applications (sometimes close to 2x faster), and when you overclock the processor (usually limited by heat rather than hitting a overclocking wall) its performance is unrivalled.

Today is NDA day for Intel's brand new Z97 platform. Sadly there will be no launch article on MadShrimps; simple reason is because we have experienced some issues with the current Haswell refresh processors on our Z97 testbeds. MadShrimps has tested Z97 with the 4770K and did a comparison between Z87 and 297. That data is ready and was ready to be published, however the outcome we got when briefly testing the i7 4790 from the brand new refresh range is concerning to say the least. Time for a brief explanation of what happened today...

Intel knows that most people will spring for the cheaper Lynnfield in most cases and enjoy a big upgrade for little money. It's hard to really point out anything wrong with this processor. It's cheap, its performance for the dollar is unrivaled in the industry and at last allows the consumer to upgrade above a socket 775 system without having to re-mortgage the house.

After testing the Intel i5-661 processor for a month or so, I can definitely see where it will create a market for an affordable and much more simpler computer that will be easy on the wallet. The inclusion of the video processing on the same package as the processor will be a breakthrough technology and I cannot wait to see what this will develop in the future.
