Today AMD launches the new Trinity APU lines based on the Piledriver architecture. We have in their latest A10-588K and A8-566K APU's for testing. GPU as well as CPu enhancements await end users with this new product line. The big question on everyones mind is "Does Trinity close the gap and finally provide a compelling argument to the Ivy Bridge CPU. There's no doubt that Intel retains the performance crown but the really compelling argument is in where AMD is headed. The question you should be asking yourself is " What should I be looking for in a processor?"
In May AMD introduced its latest generation APUs codenamed Trinity for laptops, and today the desktop versions finally arrive. It’s amusing to think that, despite how popular a subject for video games they might be, ‘Ninja’ are rarely shown as stealthy assassins. It's starting to look not so good for AMD. Aside from a few completely multi-threaded benchmarks, the new Core i3s with two cores are faster than the AMD A8s with four cores. It's no wonder AMD found itself forced to lower it prices again recently. The most high-end AMD Llano processor, the A8 3870K, is still cheaper than the Core i3s tested here. An AMD A6 processor you can buy for half the price of an i3.
You always need to be at least a little suspicious when a company shows you a set of comparative benchmarks. But, as they say, forwarned is forarmed. AMD had a number of systems on show in London yesterday and world famous overclocking expert (and now AMD PR expert) Sami Makinen on hand to show some of the cooler features.
