Lian Li PC-X2000FB

Lian Li is well known for their high qualitiy aluminium comptuer cases but despite this the PC-X2000FB is something else. Even within all the beautiful cases Lian Li offers the X2000FB is special. If one likes to say so, this case is their flagship model.

There is almost no other case on the market which embodies quality and design like Lian Li does this with the PC-X2000FB. Elegant lines as well as homogenous black areas create a lasting impression. What makes this case very special too is it dimensions. Other big cases - in essence - are big boxes. Instead of increasing the X2000FBs depth Lian Li decided to build it higher. Like this the case looks thin despite it's sheer size.

Front

[en]Overview / Features

The PC-X2000's front has been kept plain and simple. Only the LED's, a silver line from top to bottom and the Lian Li slogan are prominent looking at the front. There are also rounded edges which provides this rather hughe case with a soft look. Right behind the front panel you'll find an airfilter which has been made of plastic. Furhtermore it keeps dust outside the case and due to its structure is also very easily washable. What you'll also find in this area are three 140 millimeter fans. There rotation speeds can be regulated using the integrated fan controller.

As usual for Lian Li cases the power supply will be mounted by attaching it to an aluminium frame. Furthermore power supply has its place in the bottom region of the case. If you should own an extra long power supply Lian Li equipped the case also with an extenstion bracket that will let you install you even todays bigges ATX power supplies. You'll also find anti-vibration rubber strips below the power supply unit to absorb the vibration. In the backpanel there are two 140 mm fans. Both of which have been equipped with anti vibration rubbers well as a fan grill. Furthermore the fans have been mounted to blow hot air out of the case.

Overview

Features

After releasing one thumb screw the side panel can be removed. Inside the case you find a lot of space for your precious hardware. The eight slot bezels are held in place by a very practical and high quality clamping mechanism. Each of the eight slot bezels can be removed by releasing the corresponding thumbscrew. If you'd like to install a very long graphic card as for example a Radeon HD 5970 this isn't a problem at all thanks to the cases comfortable depth. Also with the side panels you'll find perfectly brushed aluminium as well as perfect fitting. At this point we have to mention even the case is not cheap, the quality shows all it's benefits. If we remove the side panel, we find lots of space to install hardware. All together you can install up to eight 3.5'' and four 5.25'' drives. The sidepanels are manufactured from aluminium which is two mm thick and on the inside of them they are equipped with noise absorbing materials. Up to eight hard drives can be installed easily with the special screws delivered with the case. Once the screws are fixed tightly you can simply slide the hard drive until it fits. The SATA backpanel does not have any kind of controller on the PCB. Therefore a compatible motherboard with RAID and SATA Hotswap functionality is needed.

If you're a person who like to wire you PC neatly you'll definitely like the fact that Lian Li provided the X2000FB with several holes in the motherboards tray. This will let you do the wiring on the backside of the motherboard tray. The only thing which might not come in very handy is the cases sheer size when you're plugging in the 12 Volt ATX connector. You'd need to own a power supply which comes with an extra long 12 Volt ATX cable. Oversized Graphic cards can be fixed with additional plastic brackets on the aluminium truss with the screws delivered with the case. This makes sense when the case needs to be transported. The disadvantages of the aluminium truss can cause problems when connecting the powercable to the graphics-cards. The aluminium truss can simply be removed over four thumbscrews to get more space for other installations. Generally the X2000FB offers you a lot of space to comfortably install hardware. If you're looking for cable management this can also be done neatly using the benefit of the different holes in the motherboard tray.

On this side you will for example find the fan connectors. The cablemanagement is quite nicely integrated. The opening below the mainboard tray can be used for the powersupply cables. If you should have really lots of cables on this side of the motherboard tray installing the side panel can become a bit tougher. It would be great if there was about five millimeter more space. At the place where the CPU cooler is located on the motherboard there is a big hole in the motherboard tray. This makes it possible to exchange a CPU cooler even when the motherboard is installed. Furthermore you can also see that the hot swap cage in the bottom region of the case is easily accessible.

Top

Overview / Features

All connectors including the power and reset switches are located at the top panel. The cabels from the I/O connecotrs are integrated very neatly into the top panel. This time the placing is much more userfriendly and all connectors can be accessed easily. Unfortunately the top cannot be removed this could under certain circumstances be a disadvantage for example when you try to wire your brand new case perfectly.

Bottom

Overview / Features

The PC-X2000 comes with four feet which can easily be replaced by wheels from the Lian Li product line. The feets are coated with rubber for a better stand. Furthermore there also are ventilation slots which are covered by an airfilter. This allows a power supply to get fresh and dust free air.

The Lian Li PC-X2000FB comes with a lot of accessories. Next to SATA cable you'll even find a small box to put in all the different screws. What's also special with the X2000FB is that the cage which carries the 5.25'' drive can be removed. This allows you to easily install optical drives. Furhtermore on the picture to the right you can see the fan controller Lian Li equipped this case with.

Conclusion

General   + -
The X2000FB really is one of the most luxurious cases money can by at the moment. What you'll also get is the case with probably the highest build qualitiy out there in the market. The side panel for example are made of two millimeter thick, hairline brushed aluminium panels. Also the hot swap cages and the ergonomics in general aren't matched by now. Furthermore we haven't been able to find something that we would wish Lian Li to change it as soon as possible.   - Design

Manufacturing quality / Ergonomics   + -
It simply is a fact that the PC-X2000FBs build quality belongs to the best available on the market and therefore every single piece fits perfectly. It also doesn't matter if you're taking a closer look at the hot swap cages, the side panels or even fan controller. But once more we have to underline the quality of the clamping mechanism regarding the expansion cards. It's very ergonomic and all cards will be tightened to the case perfectly. Another thing are the several holes in the motherboard tray. This allows a nice cable management as well as the installation of CPU coolers when the motherboard has already been put in place.   - Hot swap cages - Build quality - Clamping mechanism for expansion cards

Design   + -
Regarding the X2000FB Lian Li chose an approach which is quite different to the one other manufacturers use in order to design a case with plenty of space inside. Therefore this case is very high. This makes the X2000FB look thin and elegant although it is a huge thing. Furthermore the rounded edges and the silver line centered in the front also look very elegant and it even give this giant a soft touch.   - Height instead of depth

Recommendation   + -
If you should be looking for a very special case which comes with a very high build quality and a luxurious design then the PC-X2000FB will be just perfect for you. Furthermore the financials really shouldn't come first because for the same kind of money you'll be able to get a high-end graphics card or a very well performing SSD.   - PC-Enthusiast

The Lian Li PC-X2000FB can be bought at Digitec for CHF 594.- (ca. EUR 424.-)
