With the Corator DS Cooling presents a sandwich tower cooler. Quite unconvenient these days is the use of a 120 mm fan than rotates with up to 1'700 rpm and therefore is quite loud. On the other hand there is the PWM functionality which should be able to regulate fan speeds to only 800 rpm.

The Prolimatech Megahalems Megashadow comes well protected from outer influeces so that the none of the parts included will be damaged during transportation. The delivery doesn't include an AMD mounting kit and also you won't find a fan. If you order this cooler you shouldn't forget to also put a 120 mm fan into your basket. Preferably it has between 800 and 1200 rpm.

Construction and design
Construction
The Prolimatech Megahalems Megashadow consists of aluminium and nickel coated copper. The base plate is made of solid copper which has been coated with nickel. Furthermore the baseplate has been polished. To transport the heat as efficiently as possible from the CPU to the finds you find six heatpipes which all have a diameter of six millimeters. At both ends of the heatpipes there are 45 fins soldered to them. With the Megahalems Megashadow you have the opportunity to install two 120 mm fans using the brackets included in the package.
Design
The Megahalems Megashadow is very well made and there are absolutely no hints for a sloppy manufacturing process. Quite special about this cooler is its nickel coated surface which especially in combination with this cooler leaves a lasting impression. On the Megahalems Megashadow you'll also find fins which are connected to eachother. This technique became quite common and it doesn't only increase the coolers stability it is also responsible for a better heat transportation and further it optimizes the airflow.

Mounting
To mount
Megahalems Megashadow properly you'll only find a backplate for Intel-sockets in the delivery. Installing the cooler will need quite a lot of force. Especially users who don't swap their CPU cooler often won't feel very comfortable when they install this one because you'll need quite a lot of force to tighten the screws. As a result of the high chunking power the contact pressure is very high which maximizes the efficiency of the heat transport.
With the Megahalems Megashadow you won't spot incompatibilities in terms of installing memory modules for example. Therefore buyers who already have six memory modules will be able to use all of them.

Testroutine
The CPU is being evaluated using Real Temp and with Prime95 we reach nearly 100% load on the CPU. For measuring the noise level we use a Voltcraft SL-200 decibel meter, which is positioned one meter from the CPU cooler with the fan mounted.

If you drive our two Noctua fans with 12 volts they are subjectively slient. As we drove the fans at 7 Volts, with 1'000 rotations per minute, we could see that the performance decreased not very much. Therefore you see that this cooler has been optimized for fans with low rotation speeds. Furthermore with the fans at lower rotations speeds the cooler becomes subjectively very silent. |
