Testing conditions

When it comes to headset testing, especially the microphone one, we subjectively describe both the acoustics and microphone quality as well as the ergonomics. The end result therefore relies also on the tester himself. We are doing our best to ensure comparable results even if different reviewers were testing different products. We think these reviews can be seen as a help if you like to buy a specific product and therefore can be seen as subjective consumer advice.

Wearing confort and ergonomics

The Immersa headset from Cougar is very comfortable and lightweight, mostly thanks to the materials that have been used and especially because of the soft ear cushions. The headband features a small amount of rubber which makes it grippy, rather soft and pleasant to touch. The ear pieces are mainly made from plastic and the overall quality is on a good level so you should not be able to find any manufacturing mistakes at all, something that we certainly expected from Cougar. The sample we receive was overall solidly built and sturdy. The headband can not be extended yet it will self adjust to your head. The ear cups are big even if you're wearing glasses there won't be any pressure points. Furthermore there is good sound proofing, which will let you focus on the gaming experience. Cougar is using glossy surfaces almost anywhere, which have been well-made again. A quick look at the cable shows that it's not removable, but of good quality. Also included in the delivery there is an adapter from 2-pin to 3-pin, which allows connecting this headset to smartphones as well.

Acoustics

Headphone

Cougar decided to equip the Immersa with two 40 millimeters drivers, which should be able to guarantee a good sound experience. We tested the Immersa with a wide variety of music, movies and games. Despite our initial fears, the Immersa headset was a rather pleasant surprise and the sound is, in our opinion, well balanced. During our tests we found it has great reproduction of high, mids and bass, and Cougar certainly did a good job from this point of view. Only on high-volume, we found some distortion in the audio quality. If you love deep and pumped bass, you can still boost those frequencies by using an equalizer.

Microphone

The microphone is very good and we like the fact that it is retractable. The in-line remote control is practical and convenient, however, made of a very cheap plastic, which is a rather unpleasant suprise considering the overall quality of the headset. Captured voice sounds clean and natural, while it doesn't matter whether you're using Skype or TeamSpeak.

Conclusion

The Immersa from Cougar is a good gaming headset in almost every scenario. Despite our initial scepticism beacuse of the products overall very low weight the Immersa managed to convince us. Apparently the low weight also has advantages in regard to comfort. The Immersa is very comfortable to wear and it fits almost any headshape nicely. The build quality, as well as the materials, fully comply with the Cougar's standards and any aspect or detail have not been left to chance. The cable is not removable, however, has a suitable length which should ensure a high level of comfort. The only thing we didn't like is the remote control, which is bulky and made from cheap plastic.

The sound quality of the speakers is on a good level, and in our opinion, the highs and bass are quite well balanced, allowing a user to fine tune it towards personal taste. Only the mids could be improved, since in some situations they are not present enough. The passive isolation of the ear cups is good as well, while the padding used by Cougar and the particular shape of the ear cups provide good isolation from the surrounding environment. The microphone, which has been placed on a flexible and retractable arm, is average compared to other products we've tested over the past years, resulting in well understandable voice, but the quality could not be described as crystal clear. The Immersa does not require any software in order to work properly, it is only necessary to connect all the cables supplied to start using headphones. Last but not least, the Immersa is also compabitle with smartphones.

Checking Geizhals.eu, we find this headset for 45 Euros excluding shipping costs. The price is certainly very interesting for a product of this type. Overall the Cougar Immersa scores 4 stars out of 5.
