With the Gaming 24GE IPS, MSI has a nice gaming all-in-one its portfolio, which comes with pre-installed Microsoft Windows 8.1 and it is based on Intel's Haswell platform. Apart from that the system features attractive features and even the performance should be on a very reasonable level, since there is an Intel i7-4720-HQ CPU inside paired with a mid-range graphics chip.

The Gaming 24GE IPS from MSI is an all-in-one PC which is perfectly suitable for office applications and thanks to the NVIDIA GTX 960M GPU also casual gaming is possible. On the following pages we will analyze in detail all the components inside the Gaming 24GE IPS.

Closer look

First of all we're going to explain what this product is all about. An "all-in-one" is a desktop system, where all the components and the dispaly are inside the same case. These systems usually offer good looking design and they don't take more space than a display on a dekstop. The MSI Gaming 24GE IPS, like the name suggests, is based on a 23.6" IPS panel with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. The stand is very solid and allows tilt adjustments and apart from that also the height can be changed. In addition there is a standard VESA mount to install the AiO on a wall.
Size and dimensions are not far from a normal 23.6" monitor, in fact the Gaming 24GE IPS measures 583 x 434 x 32 mm with a weight of just over 9 Kg. The connectors are on the left profile and on the rear and there are two USB3.0 ports as well as a Smartcard reader. Apart from that there are three USB (two 3.0), 2x HDMI, 1x RJ45 and analog audio panel on the left side. The Gaming 24GE IPS features two different network cards; a wireless Intel (AC1360) and Bluetooth 4.0 module as well as a Killer E2200 LAN chip.
The components within this AIO are quite interesting. There is an Intel quad-core i7-4720HQ paired with 16GB of DDR3 memory as well as a Nvidia GTX960M 2GB. Regarding the storage there are two mSATA 128GB SSD in RAID0 and a 1TB HDD.

Office PC

Primarily this machine has been designed to be used in office environments and that is why we decided to start our test suite with applications for daily use, such as Microsoft Office and Adobe. We used the Gaming 24GE IPS to write this review and modified all our pictures taken during this week with pre-configured actions. With Photoshop and Dreamweaver, the Intel Core i7-4720HQ CPU was able to satisfy our need by quickly processing batch operations.

From a subjective point of view the FullHD IPS panel used on this AiO offers good image quality. The colors are vivid, brightness is on a good level and so are contrast and black level.

Gaming PC

As we already mentioned on page 4, the MSI Gaming 24GE IPS uses a quad-core i7-4720HQ with base frequency of 2.60 GHz and a turbo clock of 3.60 GHz. The CPU is paired with 16GB of DDR3 memory and a GTX 960M 2GB GPU. The GTX 960M is a mid-range video card available on the market since March 2015. Based on Maxwell architecture and on GM107 chip, this model offers similar performance to a GTX 750 Ti. Thanks to these features many recent titles can be played smoothly with the maximum resolution (1920x1080) with medium or high details. However, very demanding games such as Crysis 3 or Project Cars will require lower resolutions and/or details. To complete the test suite we also launched two runs of the 3DMark FireStrike, in normal and extreme mode. The graphics scores were 4'406 and 2'053 point, which is, as we already pointed out, on the same level as the GTX 750Ti.

SSD

Inside the Gaming 24GE IPS we found two Transcend 128GB mSATA SSDs which can provide really good read performance. This allows for a very smooth user experience and almost any application launches instantly.
In addition we find a 1TB 3.5" 7200rpm HDD where you can save your files and install many games and applications.

Conclusion

Overall we can say that the MSI Gaming 24GE IPS is a good all-in-one system and suitable for casual gaming and office enviroments. The look is always a very subjective factor, but we believe that the red frame which is a characteristic of the MSI Gaming lineup is a bit too flashy for a work environment. We did like the build quality very much and the fact that high quality materials have been used, really leaves a good impression.

The performance of this system is where we expected it to be and especially the Intel i7-4720-HQ CPU gets the job done quickly. Apart from that, there is 16GB of DDR3 memory, which will even be enough in two years from now. The graphics card available on this model is a GTX 960M which provides performance similar and sometimes even higher than a GTX 750Ti. We tested the Gaming 24GE IPS with different games, applications and benchmarks and the results are sufficient for 1080p casual gaming. The storage has been a pleasant surprise, since the RAID0 out of two mSATA SSDs is performing very well.
Since the system is quite compact (it's just a little bit bigger than a normal 23" display) we were surprised to find temperatures similar and comparable to gaming notebooks. Applying heavy workload we measured 90°C on the CPU and 80°C on the GPU, which is in-line for such a system.

Nevertheless the MSI Gaming 24GE IPS isn't without flaws; unfortunately due to a bad placement of USB3.0 ports on the rear, there are issues connecting portable HDDs and large USB flash drives. We would like to see more ports, especially the ones, which are used on a daily basis. Apart from that, if you decide to use the VESA mount the ports on the back of the AiO become useless.

The MSI Gaming 24GE IPS is available on AK Informatica for about 1680 Euro. In our opinion the price is accurate. We initially tried to compare this system with a gaming laptop with similar features and performance, but we believe that the comparison is not good since there is a big difference about the monitor's size. In our opinion, this system competes with the Apple iMac solutions, which are substantially more expensive. We know that the price is quite steep, but in the end you're paying for the sleek ans slim design of a quite powerful AiO. The MSI Gaming 24GE IPS receives 4 stars out of 5.
