Category : Cases
Published by Luca Rocchi on 18.05.15
The Versa H15 is the latest case from Thermaltake, which features a compact form factor as well as space for high-end graphics card. Despite its small dimensions, there is actually enough space for a custom watercooling setup and therefore it might be a case that offers some rather interesting options. The street price of the Versa H15 in quiet interesting and is only 35 euro.

Features
Built for gamers
Despite its small size, the Thermaltake Versa H15 is designed to be used by more experienced
users. Thanks to the internal layout done by the manufacturer, the case is able to accommodate
both bigger and high-end components. |
|
|
Tool-free installation
The installation of the components inside the Versa H15 is simple and quick thanks to docking systems and
tool-less mounting systems, something that we have seen on high-end PC cases. |
|
|
Well-thought cable managment
Despite its rather cheap appearance, the Versa H15 uses advanced
and high-quality systems which can usually be found in much more expensive models,
including cable pass-through and eyelets for zip-ties. Despite the lack of rubber grommets,
all metal edges are well finished and free of any sharp edges. |

Product overview
Overview |
|
|
|
The Thermaltake Versa H15 is a mid-tower
PC case featuring a huge front mesh and rather edgy lines. The front
panel includes a single 5.25" slot for optical drives or fan controllers. Both side panels share the same style
and design with debossed sharp and box shape design. The upper part of the case is very simple with
room for two 120mm fans. The connections are located at the front panel and you get two USB 3.0 ports as well as a mini audio panel. Despite the fact that the Versa H15
looks like ti could only be a PC case used for entry-level systems or equipped with
a mid-range graphics card, thanks to some features and the time Thermaltake
spent in optimizing the internal space, the Versa H15 can be also used for high-end gaming
systems. |

Installation
Overview |
|
|
Despite its rather compact size, the inside of the Versa H15 can house an mATX form-factor motherboard in addition to
a mini-ITX form factor. The motherboard tray does not feature pre-soldered standoffs and there is a big opening behind the socket, so that you can install aftermarket cooling systems without taking the whole motherboard off. Around the tray, there are five openings for routing cables and there is some good space between the motherboard tray and the right panel. Like all
the new PC cases, the power supply space is big and placed at the bottom part of the case with the fan facing outside. On this model you can install up to three 3.5" HDDs or three 2.5" HDDs/SSDs. For our system, we chose to use a longer graphics card and a big tower
CPU cooler. As you can see from the pictures below we did not encounter any problems with
the lack of space, dimensions or assembly, and all the components were correctly placed inside the case
without any problems. Despite that there is not much available space for wiring, thanks to curved bulkheads, it is possible to hide more cables than expected. |

From the cooling point of view, the Versa H15 allow you to install a maximum of five 120 millimeter fans. Inside the bundle, you will find a fan that is already mounted in the rear part of the case. Other fans can be placed at the top and behind the front panel. Given the small size of the case we suggest to use
an all-in-one liquid cooler system or standard air coolers with medium size heatsinks. |

For testing purposes we
are using an ASUS P8Z77-I ITX motherboard, an Intel Core i5-2500K CPU, which
is cooled by a be quiet! Dark Rock 3 cooler as well as a Club3D R9 290X royalAce graphics card. To put the CPU under full load, we
are running prime95 for 10 min and in the case of the GPU, we are using
Furmark also for 10 minutes. |

Conclusion
After looking at all the facts and our experience with
this PC case, we can say that the Versa H15 from Thermaltake is a mid tower solution designed for those who wish to have a small case but
also be able to use high-end components. The space available inside the case ensures good compatibility with high-end products and AIO coolers or tower heatsinks.
Despite its very small dimensions, the available interior space is above average for a
PC case of this type. Also the area dedicated to the cable management is very good thanks
to extra space on the side panels. The size is not the only small thing with the
Versa H15 as the weight is well below an average and usually this factor also indicates the quality of the steel used.
Despite its small weight, the Versa H15 has impressive build quality while the paint
job is very good and we did not detect any defects or imperfections.
To test the case we used, as usual, a high-end graphics card with big tower cooler without any issues. The temperatures detected during the stress test are close to the average of the products tested so far
and with a couple of additional fans, it is possible to further improve the temperatures.
The amount of features available is interesting and we especially appreciate the choice made by Thermaltake regarding cable management,
as in order to obtain a tidy and clean configuration, the manufacturer has chosen to use curved side panels which also helps during the installation of the
CPU cooler heatsink.
In conclusion, we can easily recommend the Versa H15 PC case to anyone looking for a cheap mid-tower
PC case which is well made and able to also accommodate high-end products. The Thermaltake Versa H15 is available
on Geizhals with a price of 35 Euro excluding shipping costs and it is also available
as the windowed version for a small price premium of 5 Euro. The Versa H15 receives our highest rating of
5 stars out of 5.
