Features

Fan controller

On top of the case, Nanoxia placed a useful dual-fan controller which supports a maximum of six fans. It requires a single Molex connector for power and can set fans to spin at three the different settings 5V, 7V and 12V.

Dust filters

All the big openings of the DS1 feature a washable dust filter, which is easy to remove thanks to a convenient sledge-based retention system.

Noise insulation

Both side panels of the DS1 feature a decent amount of noise dampening material to help further reduce the noise level. The side panels are heavy and well made and come with an an optional fan slot.

Air Chimney

On top of the case there is a button that allows you to open the upper slots, which are a part of Nanoxia's "Air Chimney" feature. Using the DS1 with the open slots you will create what Nanoxia calls the "Air Chimney" which should provide better airflow.

Product overview

Overview

The Deep Silence 1 features a simple and neat design. Nanoxia manufacture this case from a high quality metal and plastic. The front door comes with a black panel which covers three 5.25" slots placed at the top of the case as well as the two front fans. In the upper area, right behind the front door, you can find a dual switch with three differents steps, which allows you to control the speed of up to a maximum of six fans. The bundle also includes two Nanoxia 120mm and one 140mm fans. The doors itself, as well as the side panels, are equipped with thick sound-absorbing material, which has become a trademark for most Nanoxia cases. The I/O panel features two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports, the power and reset buttons as well as the standard audio jacks. On both sides of the front panel there are a couple of narrow openings, which allow front fans to pull fresh air into the case. The side panels, even if they look quite simple, are actually the most important piece of the soundproofing system as they are equipped with a decent amount of sound proof material, which is actually pretty heavy and does a good job at absorbing the noise. The back panel is simple and you get eight PCI expansion slots, the opening for the motherboard I/O panel, a 140mm fan slot and the opening for a standard ATX power supply. Underneath the case, there are four plastic feet with an alumium finish, which ensure that the PSU can pull enough fresh air from the bottom.

Installation

Overview

The interior of the Deep Silence 1 is clean and simple, and it is based on both a classic layout and design. There is space for up to three 5.25" devices and eight 3.5" or 2.5" drives. All of drives can be put on sledges, which are a part of the tool-less installation system. Unlike many other manufacturers, Nanoxia did not make any mistakes with the HDD cages, as infact, these are completely removable and you will be able to reconfigure the internal layout to suite your needs. The motherboard tray is made out of solid steel, and it features a big opening behind the socket, which allows the user to install aftermarket CPU coolers without having to remove the motherboard. The tray features nine openings with rubber groomets which are crucial in creating a neat cable management. Between the motherboard tray and the right panel there is enough space to hide plenty of cables. The whole interior, except for the back and bottom panels, has been equipped with sound-proofing material in order to reduce the system noise to a minimum. In order to check compatibility, we have used an ATX motherboard and a medium sized tower cooler. As you can see from the pictures below there is more than enough space to install all the components. In fact, an ATX motherboard looks small in the Nanoxia DS1. A closer look at the specifications regarding the height of the CPU cooler reveals that the DS1 can support up to a 185 millimeter tall CPU cooler. When it comes to graphics cards, the DS1 support up to 315 millimeter long graphics cards.

Ventilation options

Overview

The Deep Silence 1 offers plenty of mounting places for fans and inside the bundle you will find two 120mm and one 140mm fan with green blades and black frame. Overall, the DS1 offers space for two 120mm fans at the front, one 140mm at the rear and up to two fans at the top. If you are a fan of liquid cooling systems you will be happy to know that the Deep Silence 1 is also perfect for that type of cooling. As there is plenty of space and it features modular cages, you will be able to mount liquid cooling radiators both at front as well as at the top of the DS1.

Temperatures

Overview

For testing purposes we are using an ASUS P8Z77-I ITX motherboard, an Intel Core i5-2500K CPU, which is cooled by a be quiet! Dark Rock 3 cooler as well as a Club3D R9 290X royalAce graphics card. To put the CPU under full load, we are running prime95 for 10 min and in the case of the GPU, we are using Furmark also for 10 minutes.

Conclusion

Overall, we can say that the Nanoxia Deep Silence 1 Rev.B is a mid-tower PC case designed for those looking to have a silent rig which is also compatible with high-end air cooling as well as custom liquid cooling systems. Nanoxia decided to use a classic design with a front door combined with a neat and elegant chassis design. The materials as well as manufacturing are on very good level, something that we certainly expected from Nanoxia-made PC case.

The available interior space is adequate for a PC case compatible with ATX motherboards and thanks to the modular HDD cages, you can build a push-pull liquid cooling setup by removing everything but without loosing space for your storage devices. Since the silence is the key point of this case, Nanoxia also added a good amount of sound-absorbing material on each side panel as well as two small three-way fan controller that can handle up to a maximum of six fans. Using the basic bundled hardware coming with the case, which includes a single 140mm fan at the rear of the chassis and two 120mm fans at the front, we found that temperatures are at a reasonable level while the noise is very low. Overall, the bundle is very good since, in addition to the three fans, you can also find an 8-pin CPU extension cable and zip-ties.

The amount of features available with the Deep Silence 1 are interesting and we appreciate the "air chimney" system that allow to close or open the mesh placed at the top part of the case. In addition, there are three different colors in order to meet the taste of each user or modder.

The Deep Silence 1 from Nanoxia is a PC case that we can definitely recommend. If you are looking for a mid-tower PC case with pre-installed acoustic insulation material as well as silent fans and a fan controller, this is a great choice. With this case it is really easy to build a silent rig. The Nanoxia Deep Silence 1 is available on PC-Cooling for 99.99 Euro excluding shipping costs and it is also available in White and Antracite color options. We give the Nanoxia Deep Silence 1 Rev.B 5 out of 5 stars.
