Bundle
Overview |
|
The Raijintek Aeneas bundle is pretty straight-forward. The actual box is made out of cardboard with all the basic informations printed on it. Inside, we found the
Aeneas wrapped up in a plastic bag, and safely placed inside two big pieces of styrofoam, so that even the roughest shipping can't break it. Along with the case itself, the bundle also includes an instruction manual, which is always helpful, and few other things
like the plastic bag with enough screws needed to assemble your system and
a couple of zip-ties which should help you get a better cable management.

The Raijintek
Aeneas is a cube-style case characterized by a huge mesh on both the
front and top panels. The front panel also provides a 5.25" slot
for optical drive or a fan controller. Both side panels are pretty simple,
the left side panel is as plain as it gets, while the right one has a small mesh located near the PSU area.
The top I/O panel on the Aeneas features two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports and standard 3.5mm audio jacks. The top part of the Aeneas case features a huge black mesh. The build quality is quite good and
while the paint job is also on a good level. |

Installation
Overview |
|
|
The Raijintek Aeneas is compatible with micro-ATX and mini-ITX
motherboards. The motherboard itself is placed in a horizontal position, therefore, there should not be any big problems with the installation of the components since the tray is
actually removable. The tray itself features five cut-outs for cable managment with rubber grommets. If you have never placed an ITX motherboard in a mATX case you will know that the cut-outs are often too far away, here Raijintek
suprised and amazed us by even placing rubber grommets for an ITX motherboard
as well. The Aeneas case
features two levels, the bottom level is reserved for the PSU and SSDs/HDDs, which can be mounted without any tools thanks to tool-less 3.5/2.5-inch
system. The second level features space for the motherboard with a large
cut-out for backplate mounting. For our system we chose to use
the ASUS Maximus V Gene motherboard with graphics cards of various length and we have to
say that the mounting process was very easy and fast. As far as the power supply is concerned, we used a standard sized PSU without any issues since the space dedicated is more than
adequate. The Raijintek Aeneas is compatible with graphics card with maximum length of 310mm and CPU coolers
which are no more than 180mm tall.

Ventilation options
Overview |
|
|
|
The
cooling part of the Raijintek Aeneas is decent as it offers various cooling
options. The package includes two front-mounted 120mm fans and two rear 140mm fans. Overall, the case is
also able to accommodate two 120/140 mm fans
at the top and four 120mm fans on the front. In addition to those mounting places,
the Aeneas can also house a 200mm or 230mm at the front. As you could have
guessed, this means there should be enough room for a 240mm liquid
cooling radiator at the top and at the front. |

Conclusion
General |
|
+ |
- |
Raijintek's Aeneas is a rather unique
cube-style PC case with support for micro-ATX and mini-ITX motherboards and
is designed for those who like a somewhat different design approach or are
looking for a new modding project, since the Aeneas is able to accomodate
liquid cooling systems radiators and plenty of fans. Unlike what you might think, the Aeneas is not a small case
at all, and with the right precautions, you should be able to install high-end
graphics cards as well. The build quality is pretty good and the materials are pleasant to
the touch. |

Manufacturing quality / Ergonomics |

The Aeneas is made of SGCC
steel and ABS plastic painted black and
these are definitely quality materials, both internally and externally. Although the side panels are quite light and thin, which is never a good sign, we did not observe any sharp edges. As for the
hardware mounting process, since there is a removable tray with rubber grommets everywhere
it is quite easy to obtain a very clear and nice system. The removable tray is screwed to the main chassis only
with thumb-screws. Like we mentioned, there are 5 cut-outs with rubber grommets that will help you to manage a better cable managment. The available internal space is more than enough for a mATX system,
and we had no trouble placing a Radeon R9 290X graphics card or a CPU tower cooler. |

Design |

Of course, the design is always a matter of taste. In our opinion,
the Raijintek Aeneas follows simple stylistic choices that could appeal
to many
users. The design is characterized by the presence of a huge mesh on the top
panel as well as the front one. Regarding the cooling, you get two 120mm
pre-installed fans at the front and two 140 mm at the back. Overall, the Aeneas is able to support multiple
cooling solutions, both air and liquid. A large amount of fans also means
that there will be plenty of dust and dirt inside of the case but Raijintek
placed a large filter made of plastic for the front fans but this one
looks a bit unpractical and we would certainly appreciate a better solution, like a magnetic filter. |

The price of the Raijintek Aeneas on Caseking is about €79 and it is available
in different colors and with or without the window side panel. In our opinion, the overall quality is good and the main features are well designed. The price is in line with other products in the same
category and we can recommend this model to modders and
those looking for a cube PC case which is able to accomodate high-end
components and be a part of a powerful setup. |
