At a first glance the S340 from NZXT is one good looking case. The design is very elegant and apart from that this particular case is available in different color combinations. It's quite clear that while developing this case, NZXT have had a strong focus on the design aspect and they wanted to come up with something beautiful. For us this is certainly already reason enough to have a thorough look at this case.

Bundle

Overview

The NZXT S340 bundle is pretty straight-forward. The actual box is made out of cardboard with all the basic information printed on it. Inside, we found the S340 wrapped up in a plastic bag, and safely placed inside two big pieces of styrofoam, so that even the roughest shipping could not break it. Along with the case itself, the bundle also includes an instruction manual, which is always helpful, and a few other things: plastic bags with enough screws needed to assemble your system and zip-ties.

Product overview

Overview

The NZXT S340 is a mid-tower case with a rather generous size and is characterized by a clean and elegant design. On the front, there are no 5.25" slots, in fact, there is only one large dust filter and behind it you can find two fans. Even the top shares the same style while the front features the I/O panel with two USB 3.0 ports, audio jacks and power on / reset buttons. The NZXT S340 is a well-designed case and uses the most common and best solutions, in fact, we found many dust filters at the bottom and at the front of the case. The NZXT S340 PC case is available in several colors: white / black, black / red and black / blue.

Installation

Overview

The inside is quite big, even though you might think it is not, since there is a big cover at the PSU area. As we already said, the motherboard tray features pre-soldered standoffs, so that you can fix your motherboard without any hassle. There is also a big opening behind the socket, so that you can install aftermarket cooling systems without having to take the whole motherboard off. On the tray, there are five openings for routing cables, since there is a lot of space between the motherboard tray and the right panel. The HDDs and SSDs can be installed without any difficulty on the supplied slides. The most interesting aspect of this case is definitely the space dedicated to the power supply and the aforementioned PSU cover. As you may have noticed from the pictures, the power supply compartment comes with a generous cover that allows you to hide all the cables in order to obtain a clean and tidy system.
For our test we used a ATX motherboard with water cooling CPU cooler and a long video card. Despite the length of our Club3D R9 290X we were able to correctly place all the components inside the case. We wish to emphasize that the graphics card hangs due to a physical incompatibility between the PCI-Express and the card itself, as inside the S340 there is enough space even for longer cards.

Ventilation options

Overview

As far as the cooling is concerned, the S340 offers a vast choice for a case of this range. The front panel features room for two 140 / 120mm fans and the back side comes with a pre-installed 120mm fan. On the top of the case you can install only one 120mm or 140mm fan. Inside the S340 it is possible to install 280mm and 140 millimeters radiators. As previously mentioned, there are many dust filters which cover most of the fan places. Regarding the air cooling there is enough space for a big tower cooler, since the supported CPU cooler height is set at up to 161 millimeters.

Conclusion

General   + -
NZXT created a really good product with the S340. It features a clean design and features excellent cooling possibilities. The build quality is perfect any in line with what we have expected from NZXT. Overall, you can also consider this case to be a good value for the money, since the price is rather competitive and you get a really decent number of features for the money you spend. Also, the bundle is very good and you get also two pre-installed fans.
The NZXT S340 is available also in four different color schemes so this case is also perfect for modders.

Manufacturing quality / Ergonomics   + -
The build quality is always good with NZXT and it is something that we certainly did not have any doubt about. The internal space is painted black and there are no sharp edges. The steel is heavy and very sturdy but does not affect the weight of the product, something that we did not like on the H440. In terms of comfort, we appreciate the presence of holes and tool-less systems. We particularly appreciate the cover for the power supply compartment as it is possible to get a super clean setup with this case.

Design   + -
Of course, the design is always a matter of taste. In our opinion, NZXT has created a very elegant product with innovative and functional solutions. Despite being a rather closed case, there are many air vents, mesh and cooling systems. Internally, the solutions adopted by NZXT are great and there is a lot of space even for high-end components. Only on top of the case there is a little downside since we would like to see at least another spot for 140/120mm fan in order to install 240 or 280mm slim radiator.

Recommendation   + -
The NZXT S340 has a starting price of about 66 euro excluding shipping costs. In our opinion, the price is perfectly aligned with the features and quality of the product. If you are looking for a functional case, which is fresh and able to offer a good margin for cable managment, the NZXT S340 is definitely a great choice.
