At a first glance the H440 from NZXT is one good looking case. The design is very elegant and apart from that this particular case is available in different color combinations. It's quite clear that while developing this case, NZXT have had a strong focus on the design aspect and they wanted to come up with something beautiful. For us this is certainly already reason enough to have a thorough look at this case.

Bundle

Overview

The NZXT H440's bundle is pretty straight-forward. The actual box is made from cardboard with all the basic information printed on it. Inside, we find the H440 wrapped up in a plastic bag, and safely placed inside two big pieces of styrofoam, so that even the roughest shipping can't break it. Along with the case itself, the bundle also includes an instruction manual, which is always helpful, and a few other things: plastic bags with enough screws needed to assemble your system, zip-ties and a catalogue of NZXT products.

Product overview

Overview

The NZXT H440 is a mid-tower, that comes with clean and elegant design. Apart from that this enclosure is rather big for a midi tower. A closer look at the front reveals there are no 5.25" slots. In fact, there is one large dust filter and behind there are no less than three fans. Even the top shares the same sleek style and at the front of it you can find the I/O panel with two USB 2.0 ports, two USB 3.0 ports and power on / reset buttons. When we start taking a look around the H440 we find removable side panels, that have been equipped with a thick layer of noise-dampening material to reduce the noise generated by the internal components. The NZXT H440 is a well-designed case and uses the most common and best solutions. In fact, we found many dust filters everywhere, where there are fans, which is at the bottom, the front and the rear. A fact we really like about the H440 is, that it's available in different color combinations. You can get this enclosure in white/black, black/red, black/orange, black/green and black/blue.

Installation

Overview

Since this is no small midi tower, there is plenty of space on the inside. One of the most interesting features with this case is the large PSU cover, which allows building very neatly wired systems. A closer look at the the motherboard tray shows pre-soldered standoffs, so that you can fix your motherboard without any hassle. There is also a big opening behind the socket, so that you can install aftermarket cooling systems without having to take the whole motherboard out. On the tray, there are three openings for routing cables, since there is a lot of space between the motherboard tray and the right panel. HDDs and SSDs can be installed without any difficulty, since there are carriages for that purpose. The most interesting aspect of this case is definitely the space dedicated to the power supply and the PSU cover. As you may have noticed from the pictures, the power supply compartment comes with a large cover that allows you to hide all the cables in order to obtain a clean and tidy system. NZXT has designed the H440 not only for gamers but also for modders.

Ventilation options

Overview

As far as cooling is concerned, the H440 offers a vast choice for a case of this range. The front panel features room for three 120mm fans (all three included with the case) and the back side comes with a pre-installed 140mm fan. On the top of the case you can install up to three 120mm or two 140mm fans. Inside the H440 it is possible to install 360mm or 280/240/140/120 millimeters radiators. As previously mentioned, there are many dust filters which cover most of the fan places. At the back of the motherboard tray, NZXT installed a small PCB where you can connect all of your fans.

Conclusion

General   + -
NZXT created a really good product with the H440. It features a clean design as well as excellent cooling possibilities. The build quality is perfect and in line with what we have expected from NZXT. Overall, you can also consider this case to be a good value for the money, since the price is rather competitive and you get a really decent number of features for the money you spend. Also, the bundle is very good and you get a total of four pre-installed fans.

Manufacturing quality / Ergonomics   + -
The build quality is always good with NZXT and it is something that we certainly did not have any doubt about. The internal space is painted white and there are no sharp edges. The steel is heavy and very sturdy but this quickly affects the weight of the product as, in our opinion, the H440 is too heavy for a mid-tower PC case. In terms of comfort, we appreciate the presence of grommets, holes and tool-less systems. We particularly appreciate the cover for the power supply compartment as it is possible to get a super clean setup with this case.

- Mesh & Filter - PSU cover

- Heavy - No 5.25" slots - Graphics cards space

Design   + -
Of course, the design is always a matter of taste. In our opinion, NZXT has created a very elegant product with innovative and functional solutions. Despite being a rather closed case, there are many air vents, mesh and cooling systems. Internally, the solutions adopted by NZXT are great, however long video cards may collide with the hard drive carriages.

Recommendation   + -
The NZXT H440 has a starting price of about 110 euro excluding shipping costs. In our opinion, the price is perfectly aligned with the features and quality of the product. If you are looking for a functional case, which comes with a fresh design, is quiet and offers more than enough space for cable managment, the NZXT H440 is definitely a great choice.
