Product overview

Overview

In Win 901 features a rather unique and classic design, in fact, the case is composed of a single aluminum block and two side panels made from tempered glass. The build quality is on very high level, aluminum and all finishes are very well made.
As mentioned, the base structure of this case is made out of 4 mm thick aluminum, the inner black shell is made of 1.4 mm aluminum, while the side panels are 5 mm tempered glass panels. The product is very solid and sturdy, but we do recommended to handle it with extreme care.
The front, top and bottom are pretty simple and clean with an elegant design while the rear part is a bit more elaborate. To allow the installation of the CPU cooler or a 92mm fan, the back outer panel is removable and allows an easy access to the workspace.
The storage department is located in the top right corner, placed into two sleds made of aluminum and feature hot-swap connectors. This solution is very interesting and will help you achieve great cable management. Inside the 901 there is also enough space for two 2.5" bays, one placed near the hard disk cage while the other is under the power supply. Overall, the 901 is able to accomodate two HDDs and two SSDs, which is more than enough for an ITX solution. As you can see from pictures, the case does not feature any 5.25" slots.
In order to maintain a clean design, In Win chosen to position buttons, USB 3.0 headers and audio jacks on the left side of the case, behind the 120 mm fan. Last but not least, In Win 901 sits on two solid supports with non-slip feet.

Installation

Overview

The instructions included inside the 901 are very clear and will help you during the installation of the components.
Despite the unconventional design of the In Win 901, the components are arranged almost like in a normal case. The PSU slot is located on the bottom and you can install units with a maximum length of 200 mm. For our test we chose to use a non-modular power supply, but despite this aspect we were able to properly close both side panel and end up with a good cable managment. As for the motherboard, we did not detect any compability issues thanks to the huge cut-out that will help during the installation of the waterblock or air coolers. In order to complete the installation of the setup we have used a long graphic card without any problem. We remind that In Win 901 allows the installation of coolers with a maximum height of 130 mm and 300 mm long graphics card.

Furthermore, there are numerous cable tie loops which help arranging cables in a neat way. Looking for cable routing holes reveals, that there are quite a few, which have been positioned wisely.
Despite some initial concerns about the visible cables, we must say that thanks to the sleeved black cables and the smoked glass, it is pretty hard see what is inside the case.

Ventilation options

Overview

The In Win 901 does not offer many options for cooling and features only a rear exhaust fan and one intake fan in the front. The front fan is placed close to the graphics card, measuring 120X25 mm and has a dust filter. The rear one measures 92 millimeters and is positioned on the inner black shell. Since the sidepanel does not offer mesh or ventilation grilles and that the internal space for the heatsink is only of 130 mm in height, the In Win 901 is a case born for all-in-one radiator. The 120 mm radiator can be installed externally to the case or between the two chassis (inner and outer). In each case the space available is enough for a push-pull configuration or thicker radiators.
As for the noise produced by the case we must remember that the bundle did not include any fans. The glass panels are very solid and well secured to the chassis with metal screws and rubber anti-vibration washers. Like we mentioned on the fourth page, HDDs and SSDs are screwed to aluminum rails but without any anti-vibration system.

Conclusion

General   + -
In Win has done an excellent job in creating a mini-ITX case which is able to accommodate high-end components. Despite its rather small size, the 901 supports large graphics card. Aesthetically speaking, we like the massive use of high quality aluminum and side panels made from tempered glass. The interiors are well designed, with innovative solutions and high end finishes. The clean and elegant front denies however a proper dissipation of the components, in fact, the front fan is positioned horizontally and do not take care of all components.

Manufacturing quality / Ergonomics   + -
The build quality is on a very high level, the internal and external aluminum is very well made. Installation of the components inside the 901 is quite simple and straightforward, since the space available for work is plentiful. Despite the rather small size, there are nearly 20 mm of space behind the motherboard tray. Last but not the least, there is a huge cut-out behind the motherboard that will allow you to install backplate-equipped large heatsinks without having to remove the motherboard.

Design   + -
The In Win 901 is one of the most unique cases we have tested so far. The design of the case is really something special and innovative and, in our opinion, very well done. Like most cases made from screen panels, we believe that the In Win 901 is also not a product for everyone. The single block of aluminum combined with two heavy tempered glass windows give to the case an elegant design.

Recommendation   + -
Like all the high-end products, the In Win 901 also comes with a rather steep price tag. On Geizhals, the In Win 901 starts at 147 euro excluding shipping costs. If we focus on the build quality, design and the overall product quality, we believe that the price is adequate. If you are looking for a unique product with small size which can accommodate high-end components, the In Win 901 is definitely a great choice. However, due to the restricted cooling capabilites we do not recommend the 901 for hardcore gamers.
