Today, ASUS lifted the NDA for their brand new Striker graphics cards. The GTX 760 sits on a custom PCB and there is also a highly capable cooler. Additionally you get a factory-overclock which deserves the attribute impressive. Overall we're curious to see what this card will pumping out in terms of performance.
It might come as a surprise to see yet another high-end graphics cards being launched by ASUS,
but today we will be checking out the latest ASUS Republic of Gamers series
graphics card which is a part of the GTX 760 lineup, the ASUS
ROG GTX 760 Striker. According to ASUS, the GTX 760
Strike is all about cherry-picking GPUs
in order to make sure that they all run
at high factory overclock. We must
note that ASUS did a great job as the clock speeds for
this GTX 760 are quite impressive.
With 1085 MHz GPU baseclock and 1150 MHz
GPU boost clock we are looking at
105 MHz and 117 MHz overclock
compared to the reference design. It appears that simply cherry-picking the GPUs
for this card would have been too easy, so ASUS went ahead and created another
custom design, where they have deployed their famous DIGI+ circuitry in combination with high quality components.
As you can see from the GPU-Z screen below, ASUS' ROG GTX 760 Striker
Platinum
packs Nvidia's 28nm GK104-225 A2 GPU with 1152 CUDA cores, 96 TMUs
and 32 ROPs, as well as a massive factory overclock. While the reference GTX 760
sticks to 980MHz for the base GPU and 1033 MHz for the GPU Boost clock, the ASUS
ROG GTX 760Striker Platinum works at 1085 MHz GPU base clock and 1150 MHz GPU Boost
clocks while the 4GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 256-bit memory interface ended
up clocked at reference 6008 MHz.
ASUS ROG Striker Platinum promises 10 percent better
peformance out of the box and comes packed with features aimed at enthusiasts,
overclockers as well as those looking to get best possible piece of hardware in its specific category.
ASUS equipped the new ROG GTX 760 Striker Platinum graphics card with its
own dual-slot, dual-fan cooler. It features CoolTech fan technology,
which combines axial and radial approach in one single fan in order to
move more air over the heatsink at the same noise level and apart from that
increase cooling efficiency. The first,
or precisely, the right side fan is the standard one which provides directional airflow which
is combined with the second, left side hybrid
fan.
The fans are in charge of cooling the hefty heatsink which features one 10mm
direct-contact copper heatpipe and two 6mm,
and should, according to ASUS, provide up to 30 percent cooler operation
compared to reference cooled graphics cards. The ROG GTX 760 Striker Platinum
also comes with an aluminum back plate which should keep the backside cool as
well as provide more structural ridgidity to the entire graphics card. In order
to make the looks even more special, there the cards name plate features a
backlight that shimmers in different colors depending on GPU load.
The ASUS ROG GTX 760Striker
Platinum graphics card, or to be precise our sample of
it, allowed a maximum stable overclockof 1319 MHz
for the GPU and 1651 MHz on the memory side. We
used Furemark V1.11.0 Geeks3D benchmark with 15 minutes duration. With these
clocks we had to feed the GPU with 1.21 Volts and the memory ran at stock
voltages.
The custom PCB features ASUS' DIGI+ 8-phase with Black Metallic Capacitors,
concrete-core chokes and hardened MOSFETs, in order to
ensure high stability. The custom PCB is not the only feature
on the new GTX 760 Striker as it also comes with the ROG color-coded LED LOGO
which shows GPUs load level as well as the ASUS' ROG Edition GPU Tweak
which gives you precise control over GPU clock frequency, VRM and
the cooler.
The memory chips used on the GTX 760 Striker are made by SKhynix and carry the model number
H5GQ2H24AFR. They are specified to run at 1502 MHz (6008 MHz effective)
which is a default frequency and there is no overclocking on the
memory part, simply
because ASUS used 4096MB of memory instead of
2048 MB, as the higher
capacity memory usually mean lower overclocking possibility.
The ASUS ROG GTX 760 graphics card ships well bolstered in a foam made mold. Bundled with the graphics
card are the user guide, the driver CD and two power converter (2x6-Pin-PCIe to
1x8-Pin-PCIe). The bundle is actually quite poor for such a
special edition graphics card and we would have love to see a
few addtional goodies.
For the noise level results, we measured the noise
level using a decibel meter (Voltcraft SL-200) located at 1 meter away from the
graphics card.

For the price we took the lowest price available on geizhals.eu.
With the ROG GTX 760 Striker Platinum, ASUS
has created a high-end NVIDIA based graphics cards, which comes with a
really long
feature list, including a new real/time streaming
feature for gamers. The new ASUS ROG GTX 760 Striker Platinum graphics
card is a great combination of
performance and value and it will please mid-range
gamers as well as overclockers. It is also currently
the fastest GTX 760 we tested in our lab and
comes with a rather high factory-overclock where
the GPU clock is set at 1'150 MHz, which is 117
MHz higher than the reference design from Nvidia.
ASUS also decided to use 4'096 MB instead of 2'048 MB
seen on the reference
design simply because a lot of gamers are
currently using multi-monitor setups and
when high resolution is
concerned 4GB memoy is a must. The
memory on the ROG GTX 760 Striker
Platinum is not
factory-overclcoked at all,
mostly due to the 4GB capacity, as higher memory capacity means lower
overclocking potential. The cooler is
well designed and in
line with expected quality and performance for an ASUS Republic of
Gamers graphics card. Overall, the
new graphics card from ASUS
also looks
strikingly good and build quality is on a very high level,
especially
the Striker cooler, which recieved a black paint job
and simply
looks gorgeous with it.
The cooler of this new Striker card is
definitely a highly capable model, although not the
most sophisticated when
compared to the competition. Nevertheless, the results gathered show
that this
cooler is quite enough for a decent factory-overclockon the GTX 760 GPU. When it
comes to noise levels, the
graphics card is, subjectively speaking,
very silent in
idle and can be also described as silent under load.
Comparing the results with the reference temparature of
the GTX 760, it is quite
obvious that ASUS made an awesome cooler.
Tempratures
under load, when using Furemark,
are 17 degrees lower when set auto (32%) and four
degrees lower when set to 100%.

Performance
+

Overall performance is very good since the ROG GTX
760 Striker Platinum features a rather impressive factory-overclock
for the GPU.
On average, the graphics
card is faster than
any other designand
the cooler is making sure that it never overheats. Overall, this is the fastest GTX 760
graphics card we had in our lab
and in some benchmarks we can even compare it
with the GTX 770 and the
HD7970. The factory overclock
of the GPU to 1150 MHz and 4GB
of memory is what is
definitely needed in order to
push the GTX 760 graphics
card to its highest out-of-the-box potential.
A closer look at the power consumption reveals that these
figures are really
good too. The idle power consumption
puts the system pull at
48
Watt and under load our test system needed 255 Watts, which is perfectly
in-line with competition. As we said before this
graphics card is overclocked to
1150MHz which, with maximum boost
of 1215 MHz, requires a bit
more power but it still stays within the
expected range.

Recommendation / Price
+
-
So far the new ROG GTX 760 Striker Platinum has not
been listed yet, but the communicated price is to
approximately 288 Euro. Since the
feature list is rather long we expected a premium
of about 50 Euro
compared to a reference GTX 760 with 4 Gigabyte memory and price
is acutally in line but still rather steep for a GTX 760.Overall,
this is a graphics card we can
definitely recommend to enthusiast gamers and we are
also curious to see what
overclockers around the globe are going to squeeze out of this
thing.
