Display

For its Ultrabook Toshiba uses a TN panel which offers 1366 x 768 pixels resolution. During our tests we measured a brightness level of 274 Candela per squaremeter. For Ultrabooks the likelihood, that they're being use outside is very high and therefore maximum brightness should be at least 250 Candela per squaremeter which is the case for this notebook. Furthermore it features a matte display which also helps if you want to use the device outside. Regarding the viewing angle things don't look that good. If the horizontal angle is 45 degrees colors start to change and vertically 10 degrees are sufficient to make the colors look odd. Combined with a bad contrast ratio this really isn't good.

Input Devices

Toshiba has integrated the keys into the chassis. Unfortunately there is only about one millimeter keydrop with this keyboard. This really is a pity because typing feels just strange on this keyboard. In fact it isn't comfortable at all and your fingers become tired quickly. What has been done well is the positioning of the arrow keys. They are a bit outside of the keyboard and easy to use.

Toshiba decided to go for well sized touchpad. Once you're looking for the buttons you'll be in for a surprise. The left as well as the right button need quite a substantial amount of force until they release. For the left click this can be solved by tapping the touchpad, which results in the same gesture but for a right click you'll have to use the button in the bottom right corner. Fortunately when steering the cursor over the display the touchpad is very precise and furthermore you can program a gesture where you tap the touchpad with three fingers and then it opens a program.
