Conclusion

General   + -
With the Vaio S-Serie VPC-SB1S1EW, Sony has a very good looking subnotebook in its portfolio which has its strenghts but also shows weaknesses. Therfore we liked the design and the input peripherals. Minus points the device got for chassis stability as well as the display which is only average.    -Input devices

Display / Input devices   + -
Sony equipped the Vaio S-Serie VPC-SB1S1EW with an average 13.3 inch display - TN panel. It would be very nice if viewing angle, colors, contrast ratio and the brightness was improved. As it is at the moment it simply isn't convincing at all. Only the resolution is ok for desktop tasks and webbrowsing.
Keyobard and touchpad leave a very good impression. Typing texts on the Vaio S-Serie VPC-SB1S1EW is comfortable.

Performance   + -
Equipped with a Core i5-2410M dual core CPU that features four threads, clocked at 2.3 GHz and a Radeon HD 6470M mobile graphics chip, there is plenty of performance for a subnotebook. One can even play games at low resolutions. Unfortunately the battery will be empty quite quickly under load condidtions. This takes as less as 79 minutes. Quite a lot better is it when you do desktop tasks. In this case the battery is good for almost five hours of working.   - Desktop - Performance

Recommendation   + -
If you should be looking for a good looking subnotebook and you do care a lot about chassis stability as well as a good display then the Vaio S-Serie VPC-SB1S1EW might be worth considering.   - Subnotebook - Gaming Notebook
