As soon as you take the Sony Vaio S-Serie VPC-SB1S1EW out of its box, one of the first things you'll notice is the low weight of the Vaio S-Serie VPC-SB1S1EW subnotebook. The cover itself shows quite a lot of flex and therefore it doesn't offer as much build quality as one might wish. One the other hand the design is very nice. We like the white cover with the Vaio logo in silver. Once you've opened it you see the keyboard, the touchpad and the frame around the display which is in a decent silver color.

Sony equips the Vaio S-Serie VPC-SB1S1EW, which weighs 1.75 kilogram with an Intel Core i5-2410M CPU, four gigabyte memory, a 500 gigabyte, 5.4k rpm hard drive, an ATI Radeon HD 6470 graphics chips with 512 megabyte VRAM as well as a 13.3display. The CPU features two cores with four threads which have a baseclock of 2.3 GHz and a turbo clock of 2.9 GHz. As soon as one puts the CPU under load you'll notice that the fan - Sony had decided - to put into the Vaio S-Series VPC-SB1S1EW, is quite loud and irritating. It would have been very nice if there was a more silent solution.
