Conclusion

With the Veloci Raptor 300 GByte Western Digital has a hard diks in its portfolio with very good performance figures. If we look at the sequential performance values we see that the drives only small problem because it isn't able to catch the leaed under these conditions. But on the other hand, when we look at the random read and write tests, we discover the strength of Western Digitals Veloci Raptor. Only under random write conditions with 4 KByte blocks the Veloci Raptor has to pass the lead to the much faster rotating Seagate Cheetah otherwsie the preformance figures mostly are way better than the competitors ones.

As MTBF (Meantime Between Failure) Western Digital declares 1'400'000 hours. Compared to earlier models the 2.5'' small Veloci Raptor got much more silent. During accesses the noise level is subjectively audible. Idle the Veloci Raptor is subjectively silent.
