Perfomance

We have tested the unit by playing various multimedia content, both streaming or in local network, with applications such as Plex Home Theater and VLC. Despite having only 2GB of RAM, which is not expandable, and the quad-core Atom CPU, the PiPO X7 TV Box was always fast and smooth even with heavy blue-ray movies. Scrolling hard on VLC, jumping from one point of the video to another, we haven't noticed any problems. Even the flash drive performance is not bad at all, ensuring a good speed at low cost. To complete the test, we have also checked the temperature under full load and measured around 80 degrees during playback of large .mkv files. Despite this high value, and thanks to an enormous aluminum surface area, the PiPO X7 always remained cool.

Conclusion

Overall, we can say that the PiPO X7 is an excellent TV Box based on the Windows 8.1 OS. Unlike other models based on Android, the expandability of the software on Microsoft Windows OS is far superior and we also appreciate the presence of pre-activated Office 365. Performance is respectable and during our tests we haven't seen problems with content playback. Even the performance of the Samsung eMMC flash memory is good thus ensuring a rapid boot. Given the limited storage space, it would be natural to connect a hard drive via USB and for this reason we would like to see at least one USB 3.0 port. In addition we believe that a VESA bracket could be also a welcomed sight since the PiPO X7 is a very compact TV Box.

The PiPO X7 is available on Pandawill at a price of about 109 dollars. In our opinion, the price is more than justified with the performance of the device and for this reason we give the PiPO X7 4 out of 5 stars.
