KobraLan Extreme is the new mini-monster from KobraPC, which is based on an ITX formfactor with high-end components. The system is Haswell based with an Intel Core i7-4770K in order to pump out high frame rates there is a MSI GTX 780 Ti Gaming graphics card. In addition, the system is pretty clean inside but this build is certainly not cheap. If you're curious to see what KobraPC has been building, have look at the following review.

The KobraLan Extreme is a mini computer based on an ITX form-factor motherboard, created to be easily carried during events and LAN parties. Unlike the previously analyzed V1 version, the size of the Extreme is slightly larger, measuring 356 x 242 x 362 mm with a weight of 11 Kg. This little beast uses a Cooltek W1 case, made of aluminum with good quality and workmanship. The front and rear parts feature a 140 mm fan with white blades. The case has been customized by KobraPC, and the front panel features the KobraPC logo while the top front of the case features a red LED strip that can be switched off.

Hardware-wise, KobraPC decided to go for MSI's Gaming Z87I motherboard, which has all of the most common connections including WiFi and Bluetooth. Combined with the small Gaming motherboard from MSI, is the Intel Core i7-4770K 3.90 GHz CPU cooled by Corsair's Hydro H100i water cooler. Despite the ITX form factor, the KobraLAN Extreme also features a rather powerful MSI GTX 780 Ti Gaming OC as well as a Thermaltake Toughpower 750W Modular 80Plus Gold power supply unit.

When it comes to pre-assembled desktop systems, it is always interesting to see what it would cost to build the same PC but with components purchased individually. We tried to configure a system which is similar to the KobraLan Extreme using Geizhals.eu price search engine. The economic difference between the two configurations is very low. In our opinion, this difference is definitely fair and justified by the assembly, customization and software installations done by KobraPC.

Noise Level

   


The KobraLan Extreme mini-PC has multiple noise sources, which include the heatsink on the CPU and the graphics card. During our 2D and 3D tests, the KobraLan Extreme was always rather quiet. We found a considerable amount noise from the fans located on the cooler Corsair Hydro H100i which only occured during heavy loads or the stress-test. Regards the Thermaltake Toughpower 750W PSU we have to say that it is always very quiet, thanks to the fact that there is not much load on the PSU.
The GTX 780 Ti Gaming uses the famous Twin Frozr cooler and in our opinion the card was always rather silent in almost all scenarios we tested. With the fan set to 100%, we measured a detectable noise but not enough to annoy the gaming experience.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a powerful small desktop system which can be easily used during events and LAN parties, the KobraLAN Extreme is definitely a very good choice. Despite the ITX form factor of the Cooltek W1 case, KobraPC managed to squeeze some powerful components inside.

In our tests, the small KobraPC proved to be fast and efficient. We tested the computer in various fields and scenarios, comparing the result obtained with our platforms using a very similar, if not identical, components. The scores obtained in the 3D environment where the graphics card is most important, in 2D environment where mainly pushes the CPU as well as storage, show that KobraLan Extreme is a great product and in line with our results.
We tested also the capabilities of the 780 Ti Gaming with three Dell u2414H monitors and Nvidia Surround (5760x1080). With Battlefield 4 at Ultra preset and 2X MSAA filter, we managed to get an average framerate around 40 fps, which is nothing short of amazing.

The temperatures measured in games and benchmarks are inferior to a normal case, however, they still remain at very good levels. During our game sessions with the fans set on auto, we never detected any clock drop. Only in FurMark, when the fans are set on auto and 50%, we noted few drops.
As for storage, there is a 240GB solid state drive which allows you to install enough games and applications.

The noise produced by KobraLan Extreme is very low and on good level. We tested the system in many scenarios and with various settings, in almost all tests the KobraLan Extreme was always rather quiet.

Now we come to the price, and KobraLan Extreme has an official price of €1990, excluding shipping costs. We have tried to configure a PC system using the same components with Geizhals.eu and the price difference between the two configurations is very low, and in our opinion is more than justified.

Recommendation

KobraLan Extreme is an excellent compact gaming PC. With a price of 1990 euro you will get a beast designed for events and LAN parties.
