Phanteks Enthoo Evolv X Review

Published by Luca Rocchi on 02.12.18

With the Enthoo Evolv X, Phanteks has a case for ATX and E-ATX motherboards in its portfolio, which comes with a lot of features and a yet still reasonable price tag. Especially friends of custom watercooling loops will love this case, since it offers a lot of flexibility. Like any modern case, this model support RGB illumination and on top of that there is a fan controller for up to eight fans. For now, we're really curious to find out how this case is going to do in our review.

Product overview

The Enthoo Evolv series from Phanteks features a face place and a top cover made from aluminum as well as a tempered glass side panel. Design wise Phanteks cases have unique looks, while appearing aggressive to a certain extent and sleek at the same time. Like every modern case, the Evolv X comes with RGB illumination. There is a separate button in the front panel, which allows for customizing colors. Also integrated into the front, hidden behind a sliding panel, we find the I/O connectors and there are two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 3.1 Type-C as well as mini-jacks for microphone and headphones. The back panel is simple and straight forward as we find the opening for a 120/140mm fan, space for the I/O shield and expansion slots.

The most important upgrade compared to the predecessor can be found on the inside. The interior has been redesigned and we now find several plastic covers that you can use for covering cables. Furthermore there are two big doors at the back that help with the cable management. Although the case comes with two tempered glass side panels, you can now easily hide all the cables that you want. The Enthoo Evolv X is compatible with E-ATX motherboards and thanks to the size of the case you will not run into any issues installing large heat sinks. The motherboard tray is made from solid steel, and it features a big cut out behind the socket, which allows the user to install aftermarket CPU coolers when the motherboard has already been installed. The case shares the latest features regarding internal layout, like for instance a big mid plate covering the power supply cables. In total, the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv X supports up to four 3.5" HDD and six 2.5" SSD, both in dedicated places and well hidden.

For testing purposes we used a MSI MPG Z390M Gaming Edge AC motherboard and a 360mm closed-loop water cooler from Corsair and we did not run into any mounting or compatiblity issues.

Cooling Features Layout Build Quality Value for Money

+ Good compatibility for watercooling
+ Dust filters

+ Extensive bundle + Tempered glass
+ Dual system

+ Available space for custom water cooling gear

+ Good build quality + Solid price
Cons       - PSU mount

The Enthoo Evolv X is one of the latest cases from the American manufacturer Phanteks and it’s available in three colors: Satin black, Antracite grey and Galaxy silver. This model is almost perfect in any aspect, no matter whether you’re looking at it from a build quality, a ventilation or a layout point of view. First of all we want to mention that the steel, aluminum as well as the tempered glass, that’s been used for this case is of very good quality. We have a small concern about the PSU mount that appears a little too flexible for our liking. The finish is just perfect and we simply cannot find anything to criticize.

The looks of a case are always matter of individual taste but when checking out the interior, we believe this layout is as close to perfection as it gets. Everything is tool-free and therefore removing the front panel to access the dust filter for instance is as simple as it can be. Even the cable management is perfect, since there are plenty of covers and the delivery even includes a good number of Velcro straps. One of the key aspects of this case it's the great compatibility with custom liquid cooling setups since it allows the installation of radiators with as little hassle as possible. In addition Phanteks included a small but sophisticated fan controller that can handle up to a maximum of eight fans.

The Phanteks Enthoo Evolv X is available on Caseking at a price of 199 euro excluding shipping costs. In our opinion the price matches the quality and features at hand, which includes the well-thought layout and the excellent bundle which includes three fans. Last but not least if you like RGB LEDs, you will be happy to know that Phanteks has installed two long RGB stripes right behind the front panel.

We award the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv X with 5 out of 5 stars. This case is perfect for gamers, enthusiast and even users who need two system inside just one case. With the optional accessories, you can install additional HDDs or another mini-ITX motherboard.
