A modest growth

Intel has released its financial report for the third quarter of fiscal 2014 reporting revenue of US $13.5 billion, operating income of $3.5 billion, net income of $3.0 billion and EPS of $0.58. Generating US $5.7 billion in cash and paiying dividends of US $1.1 billion and buying back 24 million shares for US $536 million.


Fab problems to blame

Intel has announced that its 14nm Broadwell SoC for desktops and notebooks will be delayed to Q1 2014 due to some problems in the manufacturing process that could limit Intel to ship enough volume of functioning chips.


Collaboration with Arduino, based on Quark

Intel's CEO Brian Krzanich announced the new Galileo development board that is a result of a collaboration agreement with Arduino LLC, open-source hardware platform that focuses on maker and education community. Based on Intel's Quark SoC, the new Galileo development board will help to push Quark and provide some interesting solutions on the market.


The D54250WYK NUC kit with Core i5-4250U

Although it was already detailed and spotted back at PAX Prime show, Intel has now officially announced the new D54250WYK NUC kit that will be based on the Core i5-4250 dual-core Haswell CPU.


Two Core i3 Ivy Bridge desktop and three Core i7 mobile chips

According to a report from CPU-World.com via Intel's latest Product Change Notification (PCN), Intel plans to discontinue five CPUs in 2014, including two Core i3 Ivy Bridge desktop CPUs as well as three mobile Core i7 G2 socket CPUs.


Haswell refresh to jump in

According to a report from Fudzilla.com it appears that recent rumors regarding Broadwell are true and that Intel's Broadwell chips will be exclusive to mobile platform while the Haswell refresh will handle the desktop segment of the market.


With US $139 price tag

It is not a secret that Intel's Intel Developer Forum 2013 has been focused on mobility, spearheaded by Intel's latest Bay Trail platform and while it enables Intel to compete with the likes of Qualcomm, ARM, Nvidia and Samsung it is still far away from what we expected but still a good way for Intel to go. The surprise came in the form of Bay Trail-based NUC that should show up in Q1 2014 and im at US $139 price tag.


With up to 4.3 billion transistors

During the IDF, which is taking place these days, Intel announced no less than 18 Xeon E5-2600 v2 processors. These CPU's feature up to twelve cores with at total of 24 threads. Other than that there is a L3 cache which can store up to 30 Megabyte. Overall this sound like quite an improvement over the predecessor


To go 7nm in 2017

During Intel Developer Forum 2013, Intel noted that it can ship 14nm chips in 2013 but in reality, 14nm is 2014 product since that is when it will show up on retail/e-tail shelves.


Five times smaller than Atom

During Intel Developer Forum 2013, Intel's CEO, Brian Krzanich, unveiled the new System-on-Chip family, the Quark. The smallest SoC every built by Intel, the Quark is one-fifth the size of Atom and will represent Intel's aggressive push to "lead in every segment of computing", according to Krzanich.


SF-2281 based SSD for OEMs/SIs

Kicking off its Intel Developer Forum 2013 in San Francisco, Intel has decided to unveil its new SSD Pro 1500, the first non-datacenter drive based on Sandforce SF-2281 controller paired up with 20nm MLC NAND and aimed primarily at OEMS and SIs.


US $1,050/€919,56 for the flagship

Intel's Core i7 Ivy Bridge-E lineup is now widely available which lines up with previous predictions and plans to get it to the market in the September 3rd to September 11th range. The Core i7-4960X, Core i7-4930K and the Core i7-4820K are all available and although we have seen the official prices from Intel, those in retail/e-tail are always a bit higher.


Even smaller and 15 Watt TDP

Back in 2012 Intel launched there first NUC (next unit of computing), which was based on an Ivy Bridge platform. Meanwhile it looks like the second generation of NUC's is announcing itself, with a picture of a system sneaking into the web.


Update for an entire range

Although they were detailed and rumored earlier, Intel has now officially announced new Core i3 and Pentium CPUs based on Haswell architecture as well as refreshed Core i5, Core i7 and Celeron lines that will based on both Haswell and Ivy Bridge architecture. Intel has also released the new Xeon E3-1220L v3 model, announced back in June.


Few more days until you can buy it

While the price of the Core i7-4930K and the Core i7-4820K were already revealed by a couple of UK-based retailers/e-tailers earlier this week on Tuesday, the flagship Core i7-4960X has also showen up in the UK with a lowest price of €922.


Ivy Bridge-E vs. Sandy Bridge-E

Although scheduled to officially launch on September 11th, the guys from Coolaler.com managed to get their hands on the new Core i7-4960X Ivy Bridge-E and compare it to previous Core i7-3970X flagship in some benchmarks.


Listed at €303,95 and €544,18

Although Intel's Ivy Bridge-E lineup is scheduled to launch sometime between the 4th and 11th of September, a couple of UK-based retailers/e-tailers have jumped the gun and listed the cheapest Core i7-4820K as well as the Core i7-4930K.


On Ivy Bridge-E HEDT platform

As you already know, Intel plans to introduce the new Ivy Bridge-E HEDT platform on 11th of September, or just a day after the Intel Developers Conference 2013 kicks off in San Francisco but, according to a recent report from Expreview.com, it will also show the new SSD overclocking feature that will be available on the new Ivy Bridge-E HEDT platform.


Questionable backward-compatibility

Intel's 9-series chipset aimed to be used with the Intel Core Broadwell CPUs and scheduled for 2H of 2014, might have some backward-compatibility issues with currently available Intel Core Haswell CPU, despite the fact that the are based on the same LGA1150 CPU socket. According to a report from VR-Zone.com, the issue might be in a different power supply which could pose backward-compatibility issues.


Analysts drawing wrong conclusions

Intel has finally taken a stand and contrary to analyst beliefs, it is saying that PC market is not that bad and that all those reports are just hyped up conclusions that PC has been actually replaced by tablets and smartphones.
