New STRIXs cooler explained by ASUS

New video on ROGs blog

The new STRIX lineup, recently unveiled by ASUS, features a few products designed specifically for gamers. Strix is the name of a particular species of owl, a night animal, which reminds us once again about the concept of silence, already displayed by ASUS with the 0dBA version of the DirectCU II cooler.

ASUS unveiled the new GTX 780 and R9 280 with this particular cooler. It features two fans that stay still until the temperatures reach 65°, then they start rotating and cooling as usual. This technology allows the graphics card to be complitely silent while you are not using it.

As it often happens with new products, ASUS released an explanatory video (that you can watch below this text) on its Republic of Gamer blog. If this technology really work as they say, it could be a great innovation into the graphics card market.

At the end of this video there's an interesting slide: you can see a GTX 750 Ti STRIX and below that it says “Coming Soon”. Matching a greatly silent cooler and a fresh GPU like the GM107 chip seems like a very good idea. We hope to see more of this technology, maybe by other manufacturers, to spice up the competition. We'll let you know if ASUS decided to show their new GTX 750 Ti STRIX during Computex!
