The new Windows 8 interface created the need to rethink mouse and keyboard, making it more suitable for touchscreen. Microsoft Research is currently working on this project.
Giving a better user experience should be the key of any new operative system: when it comes to Windows 8, this happened for tablet users, but not for PC users.
HP had an interesting proposal, that you can find on Envy 17 laptops, called Leap Motion, which is able to detect hand gestures. Microsoft is currently working on a similar project, something that can detect hands gesture so that you can control your PC from your keyboard.
They are using sensors placed under the keyboard, that allows you to zoom, scroll, and change pages with a simple and soft touch. This video will show you everything you can do with this new technology, but it's still unclear how they are going to deal with accidental gestures.
