AMD finally rolls out Catalyst 14.1 Beta

Brings Mantle to public

AMD has finally lived up to its promise and delivered the new Catalyst 14.1 Beta Mantle driver which supports AMD's Kaveri APUs as well as Radeon R9, R7 and HD 7000/8000 GPUs.

Rolled out for Windows and Linux OS, the new Catalyst 14.1 Beta driver brings support for AMD's new A10-7700K and A10-7850K APUs as well as support for the Mantle API.

Those willing to try it, will have to first un-install the old set of driver and in order to make it a bit easier, AMD has published a neat tutorial about it while installation tutorial can be found here. In case you somehow missed it, the Mantle API is supported only with the A10-7000 and A8-7000 series APUs, Radeon R9/R7 series GPUs and Radeon HD 7000/8000 series GPUs.

Of course, in Beta-phase, the Mantle will only work on certain Radeon GPUs and APUs so those running on R9 280X, R9 270X or Radeon HD 7000/8000 series GPUs will still have to wait for the next driver.

There are also quite a few known issues with Mantle so you might want to check out those as well.
