XFX has announces the first passive-cooled Radeon R7 200 series graphics cards, which are actually the only passive cooler R7 200 series currently on the market, the XFX Radeon R7 250 Core Edition and the XFX Radeon R7 240 Core Edition.
Both are based on a half-height PCB but due to higher TDP of the R7 250, the R7 250 Core Edition features a taller hefty heatsink which makes the card a full-height one. The R7 240 Core Edition on the other has a much lower TDP and could be equipped with a smaller heatsink making the card half-height one and perfect for those slim HTPCs.
As expected, both cards are based on AMD's 28nm Oland GPUs and pack 384 Stream Processors for the R7 250 and 320 Stream Processors for the R7 240. The XFX R7 250 Core Edition sticks to AMD reference clocks of 1050MHz for the GPU and 4.6GHz for 1GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 128-bit memory interface. The R7 240 Core Edition also sticks to AMD reference clocks of 780MHz for the GPU and 1.8GHz for 2GB of DDR3 memory.
The XFX R7 250 Core Edition is currently available at €92 while the XFX R7 240 Core Edition sells for around €75.
