A few months ago Samsung introduced their latest addition to the SSD portfolio, the Samsung 840 Evo Series. With these new Solid State Drives the manufacturer also launched the so called RAPID mode, which is basically a RAM caching option that you get when you install Samsung's Magician software. Today the company announced that the same RAPID mode is also finally available for the 840 Pro Drives.
If you choose to activate RAPID mode, the performance is going to skyrocket. In
our review of the Samsung 840 Evo we were able to show that sequential throughput can reach values which are as high as almost 7 Gigabytes per second. With the RAM caching the IOPS performance also goes through the roof.
Enabling RAPID mode for the 840 Pro SSDs was a logical step forward for Samsung. Since the 840 Pro is their flagship consumer drive, it was pretty much a question of time when the company decided to issue an update for Samsung Magician, which brought support for RAPID mode on the 840 Pro.
