Playstation 4 hits 2.1 million worldwide sales

Sony thanks its fans

Although it had some bumps during its launch in November, Sony has now confirmed that it managed to sell over 2.1 million units all around the world.

It already broke the UK sales record, previously held by PSP, and became the new fastest selling console in history by scoring over 250,000 units in the first 48 hours, but now we have some results from both North American and European launches thanks to Sony's Andrew House, who posted them on the PS Blog EU.

According to the report, Sony managed to sell over one million units in first 24-hours on sale and now when the launch is expanding to a total of 32 countries worldwide, Sony managed to pull that number up to quite impressive 2.1 million units.

“It’s an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry, and we couldn’t have done it without you. I want to personally thank PlayStation fans, both old and new, for your vote of confidence. The best part: the PS4 journey has just begun. In addition to an incredible line-up of PS4 games from the best developers in the world, we will continue to introduce valuable new features and services to PS4 in the months and years ahead."

Sony really had a decent launch and we are sure that number will be up now that more countries can actually buy it. Of course, we have to wait a few months in order to get full numbers and see who did better, Sony or Microsoft.
